The Toronto Raptors who won the NBA Championship in 2019, will have to make a decision quickly on one of their star players Pascal Siakam.
Will Raptors Trade or Resign Siakam?
The Raptors ended up picking Siakam during the 2016 NBA draft and the Cameroon native has stayed with the franchise since then and has paid them back very well. He was part of the 2019 NBA Championship winning squad and has become a key player for them since.
Siakam who is about to play his 8th season in the NBA has one more year left on his current contract with the Raptors that is valued at $37.9 million each year. The 2 time All-Star forward has the option to renew his contract with a 4 year extension with the Raptors for an estimated $192 million.
As of now it appears that the Raptors and Siakam have yet to sit down and talk about a potential contract extension. There have been reports that the Raptors are open to trading Siakam and that’s one reason why Siakam isn’t interested in a potential contract extension because he does not want to stay with a team that is open to trading him. The raptors have already lost Fred VanVleet to the Houston Rockets last month due to not being able to offer a substantial contract.
Siakam ended up with an average of 24.2 points, 5.9 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game last season as the Raptors finished in 9th place with 41 wins and 41 losses.
Atlanta Hawks Interested In Signing Siakam
The Atlanta Hawks are interested in a trade deal with the Raptors as they are keen on signing Siakam. This was the report that came out from Shams Charania from The Athletic who states that they the Hawks made a formal offer to trade AJ Griffin and De’Andre Hunter, along with giving the Raptors a draft compensation in exchange for Siakam.
However, the Raptors don’t seem to be very interested in that deal at the moment as they want a much more attractive offer!
