Three Canadians Miss 2026 BMW Championship After FedEx Cup Playoffs
Summary:
- Corey Conners, Sudarshan Yellamaraju and Nick Taylor all finished outside the FedEx Cup’s top 50 after the St. Jude Championship.
- Scottie Scheffler claimed the opening playoff event at 17 under par at TPC Southwind.
- After sitting at 5 under after two rounds, Yellamaraju struggled and finished outside qualification spots.
The first event of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoffs came to an end Sunday, August 16, at TPC Southwind in Memphis, with all three Canadians in the field failing to advance to next week’s BMW Championship.
The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings qualified for the St. Jude Championship, but the field will be reduced to just 50 players for the BMW Championship in Missouri. Corey Conners, Sudarshan Yellamaraju and Nick Taylor all finished outside the required top 50.
Scottie Scheffler won the tournament at 17 under par, while the Canadians saw their playoff runs come to an end.
Conners Finishes 59th
Corey Conners of Listowel, Ontario, entered the final round hoping to make a late push, but ultimately finished with a relatively quiet round.
He opened with a birdie on the par-4 first hole before settling into a run of pars. A bogey on the seventh was immediately followed by a birdie, while another bogey came on the 14th after his tee shot found a bunker.
Conners finished the tournament at even par and is projected to finish 59th in the FedEx Cup standings.
“It was not the week I wanted” Conners told TSN’s Bob Weeks after his round.
Yellamaraju’s Strong Start Fades
Sudarshan Yellamaraju, competing in his first full PGA Tour season, also missed the cut for the BMW Championship despite an encouraging start to the tournament.
The Mississauga, Ontario, golfer was the leading Canadian after two rounds at 5 under, but a 6-over 76 in the third round severely damaged his chances.
Yellamaraju finished Sunday’s round with four bogeys, including three over his final six holes. His highlight came on the par-5 16th, where he produced an eagle with an excellent approach shot, but he immediately gave a stroke back with a bogey on the 17th.
He finished the tournament at 1 over par and is projected 58th in the FedEx Cup standings.
Obviously the third round was not very good. It kind of shot any chance for myself to move on.
Despite the disappointment, the 25-year-old described his first full PGA Tour campaign as a positive overall, noting that he kept his tour card and competed in major championships.
Taylor Struggles in Final Round
Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, British Columbia, was the top Canadian heading into Sunday’s final round after a strong performance on Saturday.
However, he could not build on that momentum.
Taylor carded four bogeys and no birdies for a 4-over final round, leaving him at even par for the tournament. The 38-year-old is projected to finish 63rd in the FedEx Cup standings.
That result ends the season for all three Canadians, as none will advance to the BMW Championship.
With the field now reduced from 70 to 50 players, the BMW Championship will continue the FedEx Cup playoffs without Conners, Yellamaraju or Taylor.
