BetOnline is one of the biggest and most popular sports betting operators in North America. The sportsbook was launched in 2004, although its management has had a significant presence in the online gambling industry since 1991 .
As a North American website, BetOnline gives priority to North American sports and major leagues such as NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB and NCAA. Of course, punters can enjoy a wide range of other international markets like soccer, tennis, rugby, cricket, and more. BetOnline also has a separate Racebook section for all major horse racing events.
Although the biggest part of this review will contain information about the website’s sports betting features, BetOnline also has plenty of casino games, together with a very popular poker room, so I’ll make sure to talk about these two sections as well.
Of course, I will also touch on the subject of the operator’s licensing, safety protocols, player promotions, mobile website, and more. After reading this review, you will get a complete picture of BetOnline, which will help you decide whether this betting website is right for you.
BetOnline History and Details
Even though BetOnline was officially launched in September of 2004, its management has had its fingers in the online gambling industry since the early 90s, when online gambling was still in its infancy. All of this time gave the management enough experience to create a perfect betting site.
Less than two years into its existence, BetOnline was among the top 60 betting sites and exchanges by overall traffic. In 2009, they set out a charity event in which they accepted the first bet from the summit of Mount Everest by veteran climber Tim Rippel.
Over the years, BetOnline added new betting features to its website, including Casino and Poker sections. In 2012, the website changed its domain from BetOnline.com to BetOnline.ag.
While BetOnline itself claims that it’s licensed and regulated, I couldn’t find any licensing information on the website. Some resources say that the operator is licensed in Panama, but the website doesn’t include details about this licence.
Nevertheless, the majority of players claim that the website is legit, together with thousands of Canadians who visit BetOnline on a daily basis.
Sports are divided into main sports and other sports at BetOnline. The main sports category includes hockey, baseball, basketball, football soccer and tennis. Betting on eSports is also available and there is a separate page for horse race betting. While the list of featured sports is in no way short, it has to be said that there are operators which offer betting on a wider range of sports.
Major leagues and events are available for betting, especially for the main sports. There aren’t too many betting markets at BetOnline, this operator limits itself to ‘match winner’ and ‘over/under’ markets with few other options on certain matches. The odds can be displayed as American, decimal and fractional.
Once you’re registered, you can add selections to your bet slip, simply by clicking on them. If there’s a wagering limit lower than the usual for a certain selection it will be market with an ‘o’. You may add multiple selections to a single betting slip and then choose the type of bet that you want to place.
At BetOnline you can place a straight bet, a parlay & robin bet, an If bet & reverse, and teasers and pleasers. Up to 15 selections can be added to a parlay bet. A teaser is a bet similar to a parlay, where the line is adjusted in your favor, which makes it easier for you to win. However, the odds are decreased as well. A pleaser is an opposite of a teaser where the lines are adjusted in the opposite direction. An ‘If’ bet is a bet consisted of two parts, only if the first selection (if selection) wins, the winnings, or a fraction of the winnings is then wagered on the next part of the bet.
BetOnline Sports Betting Markets
If you’re interested in betting on major North American leagues, there is no better sportsbook for you than BetOnline.
The sportsbook covers the NLF, NBA, NHL, MLB, and NCAA events throughout the entire season. These markets are also where you will find the biggest number of betting options and props. Each game has dozens of bets you can take.
For example, popular NFL games let you take over/under bets on numerous game elements, including passing yards, pass completions, rushing yards, receiving yards, and completions.
Of course, you can find plenty of betting markets for other sports as well. Apart from major North American competitions, the main sports on BetOnline include golf, horse racing, MMA, tennis, and soccer. With the US presidential elections being around the corner, BetOnline has also released plenty of betting options for that particular event.
If your main interest includes horse racing, go to the racebook section of the site to all major events from the US and Canada, but also some other countries like Australia, England, Ireland, South Africa, Japan, and others.
Here is a list of all available betting markets that you can find on the website:
- Aussie Rules
- Auto Racing
- Horse Racing
- Martial Arts
- Rugby League
- Rugby Union
- Sport Sims
- Table Tennis
The quality of odds on BetOnline is average. Most 50-50 markets feature odds of 1.90. That is the general practice across all markets, and not just the most popular ones.
Like all other competitive sportsbooks, BetOnline has a live betting feature that works on almost every event. To see all the events that are taking place at the moment, simply click on the Live Betting button in the top menu. Apart from seeing all live markets, you can also scroll down the left side of the screen to check out some of the upcoming events.
Every live game you click on will come with dozens of betting options, together with several market tips and statistics, like head-to-head for the previous several matches. One very neat feature here is the multi-view that allows you to follow up on several live games at the same time.
While browsing the website, I, unfortunately, couldn’t find a way to watch the games live. After further research, I discovered that BetOnline doesn’t seem to have a live streaming feature at all, which is rather disappointing.
BetOnline Website Design and User Experience
BetOnline didn’t do anything fancy with its website design for the past several years. The site is even in a 4:3 ratio, allowing the users of older computers to see everything without having to scroll left and right.
Even though it looks a bit dated, the website is still clean and straightforward. The events are displayed in what looks more like an Excel spreadsheet than anything else, but it works quite well when there are dozens of events listed on a single page.
On the left side of the Sports section is a list of all the main sports you can wager on. Clicking on each sport will open a list of all available markets for that particular sport. Each market will have a checkbox next to it, giving you a chance to only select the markets that you want to see. This is a simple but very useful feature that not a lot of other sportsbooks incorporate.
Lists for other sports, game props, player props, futures, and more sit below the list of main sports. The right side of the screen will display your current bet slip.
When you load the homepage, you will see banners with the website’s main promotions, together with a simple registration form through which you can open an account. The top bar lists all of the site’s sections, including Sports, Live Betting, Casino, Live Casino, Racebook, Poker, Esports, Contests, Promotions, and Cashier.
In conclusion, the website design of BetOnline.ag is pretty basic, but it works well. The site is light and loads quickly, which is very important for when you’re making time-sensitive bets. Finding the markets of your interest is incredibly easy, and there are plenty of shortcuts that you can take to find exactly what you’re looking for.
BetOnline allows its customers to bet on a wide range of mobile devices. Simply go to BetOnline’s official website via your mobile browser or scan the QR code from the desktop site. The mobile site has fast loading times, it can be launched from everywhere, and it doesn’t require downloading any kind of software in order to play.
The number of markets and betting options on the mobile site is the same as it is on desktop. All promotions will be there for the taking as well, although there aren’t any mobile-exclusive bonuses like on some other sites.
Unfortunately, BetOnline doesn’t have a mobile app at the moment. This is a shame considering that many of its competitors do have functional iOS and Android apps. Nevertheless, the mobile site is well-designed and works as a solid alternative.
Bonuses and Promotions
All new bettors at BetOnline can claim a 50% Welcome Bonus on their first deposit by using the bonus code NEW2500. The minimum required deposit is $50 and the maximum amount that you can receive is $2,500. The wagering requirement is x10 and you must use the bonus amount in full before you can claim other bonuses. The first withdrawal can be made 30 days after the bonus has been claimed.
BetOnline gives its bettors a lifetime bonus guarantee which allows them to get a 25% bonus on every deposit. The minimum qualifying deposit if $50 and the maximum bonus amount is $1,000 per individual deposit. The bonus code is LIFEBONUS and the wagering requirement is x6. Bettors can claim the bonus whenever they make a deposit, but they can’t request a withdrawal in the following 30 days after they’ve received a bonus.
Customers who send their friends to BetOnline will earn $100 for every friend that has joined the sportsbook and made a deposit. There are other promotions and bonuses that are offered by BetOnline. Bettors who make their first live bet are entitled to a refund up to $25 if their first live bet loses. A similar bonus, up to $50 is offered on the first mobile bet as well. BetOnline also offers few racetrack bonuses for horse racing fans.
BetOnline Welcome Offer — 50% Bonus up to C$1,000
All new customers on BetOnline will get a chance to earn C$1,000 extra upon the completion of their first deposit. The bonus is worth 50% of your initial deposit, meaning that you will need to deposit C$2,000 if you want to get the maximum amount.
The minimum deposit is C$55, which is a little high, considering that most sportsbooks set minimum deposits at C$10 to C$20. However, the wagering requirements are relatively low, forcing you to play the bonus over for only ten times.
Upon deposit, you will need to use the bonus code BOL1000. Deposits made with Neteller and Skrill won’t qualify for the offer. There’s another first deposit bonus you can get if you decide to deposit with Bitcoin, but I’ll talk about that a little later on.
This bonus must be used in its entirety before you can claim any other bonus. Also, the bonus can only be used for the sportsbook, excluding live betting. BetOnline has other bonuses for its casino and poker games. The offer will expire 30 days after being claimed.
After you use your welcome offer, you will be able to pick up the sports reload bonus worth 25% up to C$250. The minimum deposit for the bonus is C$50 (Neteller and Skrill deposits excluded), and the wagering requirements are only 6x. In order to unlock the offer, you will need to use the bonus code LIFEBONUS. Just like the welcome bonus, this offer can not be used for live betting. The good news for Canadian players is that this offer is only available to Canadian and US players.
All other promotions on BetOnline have to do with crypto deposits. The first you deposit using one of the available cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, and Stellar), you will get a 100% bonus up to C$1,000. The minimum deposit is only C$20 and you’ll have to use the bonus code CRYPTO100. On top of that, you will also have a chance to unlock the crypto reload bonus worth 35% up to C$350 (bonus code CRYPTO35).
And that’s not all. Every time you deposit with crypto, you can opt-in to receive a 5% boost. However, all boosted deposits are subject to wagering requirements of 3x.
BetOnline has several secure and trusted banking methods through which you can seamlessly complete deposits and withdrawals. The operator puts emphasis on cryptocurrency payments, as there are six different cryptocurrencies that you can use, while there are also special bonuses for crypto deposits.
The six cryptocurrencies include Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, and Stellar. Every cryptocurrency has a minimum deposit limit of C$20 and a maximum deposit limit of C$100,000, except for Bitcoin that allows you to deposit as much as C$500,000 in one go.
Other deposit methods include credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express), Money Order, Person-to-Person, wire transfer, and cashier’s check.
When it comes to withdrawals, all of the listed deposit methods are available except for credit cards. The maximum cashout limits range from C$400 (Person-to-Person) to C$100,000 (all cryptocurrencies).
Cryptos are also the fastest withdrawal methods, as you will see the funds reach your wallet in less than 48 hours. Other methods take 3-7 business days. Unless you’re using cryptocurrencies, withdrawals can include some service fees that are usually around C$50 plus 3% of your cashout sum.
BetOnline Security and Fairness
Even though I couldn’t find any licensing details when reviewing BetOnline, this bookie has a strong reputation among Canadian punters of being a safe and reliable website.
The site uses the latest SSL encryption technology that ensures your financial transactions are always 100% safe. You won’t have to worry about your personal data either, as the site uses state-of-the-art verification methods so no stranger can log into your account and start playing with your money.
Moreover, BetOnline has been tested for fairness by third-party auditors. All of its casino games are powered by RNG technology that guarantees that the outcomes are random and fair.
As a new player on BetOnline, you might have a few questions about bonuses, deposits, and other things. If you run into any brick walls or are unsure of how to use the website, the best solution is to contact the site’s customer support.
BetOnline has a 24/7 customer service that speaks good English and will be able to help you with all of your questions in a timely manner. By clicking on the Contact Us button at the bottom of the homepage, you will see all of the available modes of contact.
The site has live chat support that can be accessed even if you don’t have an existing account or if you are logged out. If you feel like you can better explain your issue over the phone, you can call 1-888-426-3661. The website also features an FAQ page where many questions that might be of interest to the customers are answered.
Although some people claim that BetOnline’s customer support agents are not very helpful, I had no issues getting my answers when conducting this review.
While it’s mostly known as a sportsbook, BetOnline does have its fair share of casino games courtesy of its Casino site. There’s no need to go on a different website in order to play. Simply click on the Casino button in the top bar, and you will see all featured casino games.
BetOnline has around 120 video slots, with new ones being added from time to time. The range of video slots is not that impressive, but the quality of games is on a high level. The games come from well-known software providers such as Nucleus Gaming, Rival Gaming, and, most notably — Betsoft. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any games that have progressive jackpots.
There are also around 50 table games, half of which are different variations of blackjack. Blackjack players can also take part in frequent blackjack tournaments. Other table games include roulette, table poker, baccarat, and craps.
Several single-hand and multi-hand video poker games are available, as well as a few specialty games including bingo, keno, and Spin 2 Win.
The Live Casino section on BetOnline is divided into two parts — Black and Red.
Black live dealer games are provided by Fresh Deck Studios, one of the leading live casino software developers in the industry. Here, you can enjoy a versatile selection of games including blackjack, roulette, baccarat, and Casino Hold’em, together with several quality video slots that are not part of BetOnline’s regular slot library.
Red Live Casino is BetOnline’s own live dealer section that includes blackjack, baccarat, roulette, and Super 6. The games are designed to suit all types of players, as you will have the option of choosing three different table limits for each game.
Bonuses and Promotions
As I mentioned before, all sportsbook promotions can not be used for playing casino games. Instead, BetOnline has a separate set of bonuses and promotions that only relate to the casino section of the website.
The main casino promotion is a 100% welcome bonus up to C$3,000 that you can claim on your first three deposits. The minimum deposit is C$25, the wagering requirements are 30x, and you will need to use the bonus code BOLCASINO upon completing a deposit.
First-time players can also pick up C$100 for free play for selected Betsoft games. Place at least C$10 as your first bet, and if you lose, you will get free bonus cash of up to C$100. To get this bonus, you will need to contact customer support first. The wagering requirements are 40x.
Other promotions include the 20% monthly reload bonus, 10% weekly casino rebate, live casino weekly challenge, BTC deposit leaderboard, and various other contests and competitions.
BetOnline has one of the best poker rooms for Canadian players, having an abundance of cash games and tournaments. One thing that’s important to know about this poker room is that you won’t be able to play poker directly on the BetOnline website.
Instead, you will need to download software that’s compatible with both Apple and Microsoft operating systems.
Cash Games and Tournaments
The games in the BetOnline poker room include fixed limit Texas Hold’em, no-limit Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Stud, Americana, and 32-card draw.
BetOnline also organizes frequent tournaments. Simply go to the website’s poker tournament schedule to see what you need to do in order to qualify, as well as get information about tournament rules and prizes.
Betting Limits and Rake
The betting limits on BetOnline’s cash games range from C$0.01 to C$10, catering to every type of player. Rakes vary depending on which games you play and how much you’re betting. There are also plenty of promotions through which you can get a lower rake or a rakeback bonus.
BetOnline is a great online sportsbook that offers plenty of betting options. While the bookie is focused on North American sports, there are plenty of other sports to bet on, each having a wide range of exciting markets.
BetOnline also has a set of rewarding player promotions that put extra cash in your account from the first deposit onwards. The casino section of the site is full of quality games, including several live casino games that come from reputable software providers.
The only major concern I had is that it seems that the bookie doesn’t operate under a valid licence. However, other players claim that BetOnline is safe and fair when it comes to paying out winners.
No, once you place a wager, you are no longer able to cancel it or change it, that is why it is wise to check before you place a bet and make sure that you’re not making a mistake.
The lowest amount that you can place on a bet if you’re betting online is $1. However, if you’re placing a bet over the phone the minimum amount is $25.
No, free bet bonus amounts can only be wagered on football (only certain competitions), basketball (only NBA, WNBA and NCAA), MLB, NHL, cricket, soccer, boxing, UFC and tennis.
