NSAC Approves 8oz Gloves For Mayweather vs. McGregor Fight

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor had agreed to fight in 10 ounce gloves as per the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) rules which specify that the 154 weight class must use 10 ounce gloves. The 10 ounce gloves were expected to favor Floyd Mayweather as the extra padding meant that shots would be felt ever so less.

McGregor highlighted this fact during the world promotional tour and told fans how Mayweather made other stipulations concerning the gloves.

He did not want Mexican gloves or horse hair gloves to be used and McGregor he signed the contract as he did not believe it would impact him in a negative way.

Those remarks appeared to have riled Floyd Mayweather who suddenly decided that he wanted to fight in 8 ounce gloves and give Conor McGregor the advantage as the MMA fighter is used to fighting in 4 ounce gloves in the Octagon.

The NSAC was against changing the glove size and wanted the fight to be carried out as per the original contract signing. However both fighters approached the NSAC and a hearing was conducted this week into the matter. The NSAC has taken both fighters views into consideration and given the fact that both fighters were in agreement on the size of the gloves, the NSAC had approved 8 ounce gloves for the fight.

The reduction from 10 ounce to 8 ounce gloves will favor Conor McGregor as he is the harder puncher. The Notorious one has stated that if the fight takes place in 8 ounce gloves, he will KO Mayweather before the 2nd round. McGregor told the press that the KO will happen in the first round but since there is a 10 count recovery in boxing, he expects Mayweather to make it to the second round.

There are many who quickly conclude that the 8 ounce gloves will favor Conor McGregor. They forget the fact that 46 out of Floyd Mayweather’s 49 fights have been fought with 8 ounce gloves and he is very used to this weight. Conor McGregor on the other hand has to make the move from 4 ounce gloves to 8 ounce gloves, which could slow down his punches. McGregor will punch harder but Mayweather will punch faster. Mayweather has also stated that the fight will not go the 12 rounds and the legendary boxer is also promising fans a KO.
