Canadian rapper Drake is one of the most popular rappers in the world with an estimated net worth of over $260 million. It’s no secret that Drake is a huge sports fan and regularly places massive bets on some of his favorite sports which include the NBA and UFC.
Bets $250,000 On Jon Jones Winning Submission
UFC 285 which took place on March 04 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada was headlined by a title fight in the heavyweight division between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane. Jon Jones is widely considered the greatest of all time (GOAT) in the history of MMA. Jones was making his return to the Octagon after a 3 year lay-off and he was moving up a weight class from lightheavyweight to heavyweight.
Jones was set to fight the number one contender Frenchman Ciryl Gane to see who would become the new heavyweight champ. Drake decided to put down a $250,000 bet on Jon Jones to finish Ciryl Gane by submission. It was a calculated bet by Drake as Gane is known for being a good striker but having a weak ground game.
It took Jones less 2 minutes and 4 seconds to finish the fight as he took Gane down early and then submitted him to become a two division champ and the new heavyweight champ in the UFC.
Drake ended up taking in a total payout of $1.7 million on his Jon Jones submission bet!
Jon Jones Breaks “Drake Curse” ?
UFC fans tend to get worried when Drake bets on a fighter and he has got it wrong often and they tend to label that as the “Drake curse“. Some MMA were worried when they found out that Drake put down $250,000 on Jones to win as they felt the Drake curse might cause Jones to his heavyweight fight but Jones showed fans why he is indeed the GOAT.
Drake recently said that he plans to exit the music industry gracefully to make room for the new generation of rappers but his exit will not be immediately.
