Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame announced on Sep 07 that some of the most outstanding talent in Canadian sports will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Oct 19 in Gatineau, Quebec. 

Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame 

The Sports Hall of Fame in Canada was established in 1955 and since then over 700 Canadians have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. The inductees for 2023 were announced at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec on Thursday.

Some of the athletes that have been nominated into the Hall of Fame includes top ice dancers Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue; Danielle Peers – a wheelchair basketball player, Phyllis Bomberry – a softball player and MMA superstar Georges St-Pierre (GSP).

Oren Lyons who was a pioneer of lacrosse and veteran judo coach Hiroshi Nakamura will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame as builders.

Future Hall Of Famers Happy To Be Inducted

Tessa Virtue thought it was a surreal moment and said

It’s so exciting and moving and overwhelming. You know, now that we’re a few years post retirement, you don’t think of the accolades coming in the same way. So to to be recognized for our accomplishments in sport and to have the benefit of having a little bit of perspective on our career is so delightful. It’s just an incredible honour.

GSP represented MMA in Canada and became a two division (welterweight and middleweight) champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the premier MMA organization in the world and is considered by MMA fans to be in the top 5 MMA Greatest of All Time (GOAT) fighters.

GSP speaking of his induction into the Hall of Fame said
