Frances Tiafoe came out with flying colors in Wednesday’s game against Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Cincinnati Open. The American’s 6-3, 6-4 win ended the Montreal player’s run at the tournament.
100-Minute Victory
The No. 17 seed defeated the second-seeded Canadian in one hour and 40 minutes.
Auger-Aliassime had a significant advantage on serve, firing 13 aces compared with just two for Tiafoe. However, the Canadian struggled to maintain consistency from the baseline, committing 37 unforced errors.
Tiafoe kept his mistakes to a minimum and only recorded 16 unforced errors during the match. That difference proved decisive as the American secured a straight-sets victory and advanced to the quarterfinals.
Despite his strong serving numbers, Auger-Aliassime could not materizlize his opportunities into enough points to keep pace with Tiafoe. The American maintained control throughout the match and closed out the victory in under two hours.
The result continues Tiafoe’s run at the Cincinnati tournament, while Auger-Aliassime’s campaign ends in the fourth round.
Canada’s Dabrowski Also Exits Doubles
Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski also suffered a defeat in Cincinnati, falling in the third round of the women’s doubles competition.
Dabrowski and Czech partner Barbora Krejcikova lost 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 to Czech duo Linda Noskova and Marie Bouzkova.
The Canadian has partnered with Brazil’s Luisa Stefani for much of the season, but Stefani has been dealing with an elbow injury in recent weeks. Dabrowski therefore teamed up with Krejcikova for the Cincinnati tournament.
While the pair responded strongly after losing the opening set by taking the second 6-1, Noskova and Bouzkova prevailed in the deciding match tiebreak to reach the next round.
The Cincinnati Open continues to provide important preparation ahead of the 2026 US Open, with the tournament featuring many of the world’s leading players.
