Christine Sinclair Will Focus On Having Fun

When it comes to most team sports, it is the head coach and the captain that sets the mood and intensity for the rest of the players. Team Canada will be captained by veteran player Christine Sinclair who will be playing her 6th World Cup and likely her last FIFA World Cup.

The 40 year old is highly respected in Canada’s dressing room and rightly so as she is the number one all-time time scorer in history with 190 goals in 323 appearances. Sinclair is no longer guaranteed to play the full 90 minutes in each game but her leadership and experience is invaluable for Team Canada.

Sinclair who is known for being a perfectionist was very transparent with the press, stating that she has made it a habit of putting pressure on herself which leads to a lot of stress. Canada’s captain said her goal for the 2023 FIFA World Cup was to just relax and have fun as that’s when she ends up playing her best! Sinclair also said that this will be the first time that her family will fly down to watch her play!

She said one of her goal’s for this tournament is to create beautiful memories and also prove that Canada is one of the best teams in the world and that winning the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo was not an accident.

Canada coach Bev Priestman was full of praise for Sinclair and said that she is in great flow as the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup commences.

Canada Will Face Nigeria In Opening Game

Canada’s first game will be against Nigeria on July 20 at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium and Team Canada are favorites to win their opening game.
