Canadian basketball fans were left disappointed after the Toronto Raptors failed to win their must win game against the Chicago Bulls.
The Raptors needed a win to move on to the NBA playoffs but fell short after going down 109-105.
Disappointing End To Disappointing Season For The Raptors
Toronto Raptors have some great players in their line-up and while they were not favorites to win the NBA Championship this season, Canadian fans did expect them to make it to the playoffs. However, they have had a very tough season and finished the group stage with 41 wins and 41 losses.
They went into their must win game against the Bulls on 12 April under a lot of pressure knowing it was a do or die game for them. They played well in patches but could not keep their consistency going which has been a problem for them all season. The Raptors ended up making just 50 percent of their 36 free throw attempts and at the end of the game, that cost them both the win and a chance to make it to the playoffs.
Nick Nurse Not Sure Of His Future With The Raptors
When a talented team like the Toronto Raptors who we confident preseason does not live up to expectations and not make the NBA playoffs, all eyes turn towards the head coach.
Nick Nurse (pictured) told media after the Raptor’s loss to the Bulls that he wasn’t sure of his future. Nurse still has another year left on his contract but after the teams disappointing loss, there is some pressure on Nurse to step down and move on.
In an interview, Nurse said
Listen, I love it here. We’ve built a really strong culture here … we all got to evaluate where we can get back to being a playoff team … and then getting to a level of winning it all, that’s what we get up and to work to do for the last 10 years
Reports surfaced in March that Nurse was likely heading over to the Houston Rockets and Ime Udoka who is the head coach of the Boston Celtics was likely to be the new head coach of the Toronto Raptors. We will have to wait a few more weeks to see if Nurse will stay on or go!
