Summary

  • Vancouver Canucks Owner accused by his four children of abuse
  • Francesco Aquilini is alleged to have physically and mentally abused his kids
  • NHL asked to investigate abuse claims and send clear message that abuse is not tolerated

The Canadian hockey scene is currently tarnished due to the Hockey Canada scandal involving a cover-up of sexual misconduct allegations into multiple players over the years. Canadians have admitted that they are finding it difficult to trust Hockey Canada as they are concerned about their children’s well-being when they take part in hockey related activities.

There is more bad news for Canadian hockey as Francesco Aquilini, the owner of the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise, Vancouver Canucks is accused of abusing his four children.

Francesco Aquilini Facing Child Abuse Allegations

The allegations made against Aquilini are from his four children who claim that they were physically and emotionally abused by their father. The allegations were heard by a Judge in the British Columbia Supreme Court who also heard that Aquilini no longer paid child support to three of his four children who were in University.

The child abuse allegations include Aquilini throwing his 5 year old child across the bedroom and beating one of his kids who was sleeping. The Judge also heard a letter written by Aquilini’s eldest daughter who claims that all four siblings no longer wish to have a relationship with their father due to the way he treated them when they were younger.

The letter says that they do not want Aquilini to have any access to them, their medical records, university information or any other details to their personal lives.

Aquilini and his legal team have come out and denied all of the abuse allegations. His legal team claimed the only reason they were interested in obtaining more information about the children is to confirm if Aquilini’s really needed to continue with child support.

The 53 year old Aquilini is estimated to have a net worth over $3 billion.

NHL Currently Monitoring The Situation Closely

The NHL has come under pressure to do more and take action against the Vancouver Canucks owner and set an example to all of the other NHL franchises. The NHL released a statement and said that the legal ramifications were the result of a contentious divorce that was playing out in the courts.

The NHL confirmed that it was keeping a close watch on proceedings and will respond accordingly as more details emerge.
