Kane Scores a Hat Trick - England Defeats Panama 6-1

England celebrates after defeating Panama 6-1 on Sunday

England’s defeat against Panama was one of the U.K’s biggest goal spreads in its World Cup history, and for Harry Kane, he was a big part of their success scoring a hat trick while helping England to its highest-scoring game since 1966.

Yesterday’s win was welcome news for England considering they failed to win a single game in the 2014 World Cup and did not advance past the group stage. However, facing a weaker team who are playing in their first World Cup tournament, England went on the attack.

Harry Kane’s hat trick put him into the lead of an elite group of goal scorers, one that includes Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo. Also scoring for England was Jesse Lingard and John Stones. The win put England onto level playing ground as it enters its last group stage match against Belgium.

While England and Russia are not on the best of terms due to political tension, England has been doing their best to push aside the negativity and present a positive image both on and off the field. Gone are the arrogant egos of past players and entering is a more friendly, less celebrity style player of the future. The result has been positive with locals even showing support for England.

It was John Stones that scored the first of England’s six goals. A corner kick into the pack in front of Panama’s net saw Stones fired a header past Jose Calderon. After Panama was called on for interference against Jesse Lingard, Kane stepped up and fired a blistering shot past that the Panamanian goaltender could do little to stop. England was now up 2-0.

Next up for England was Jesse Lingard, call it revenge for the penalty call, or call it just pure skill as Lingard sent a shot high from outside the penalty area and over the head of Calderon. All this in the first half, yet England was far from finished, and as the first half was coming to an end, John Stones found himself in the right position as multiple headers from a free kick found the ball getting one more header into the goal to give England a 4-0 lead – a first since 1966.

Panama’s Anibal Godoy feeling the frustration of defeat on the horizon chose Kane as his target only to see the officials catch the takedown and award England a penalty kick. Kane stepped up to the plate, and again first off a shot Calderon seemed helpless to stop. England now led the match 5-0, and Panama’s chances of advancing were all but over.

To add insult to injury, Kane added one more to give England a 6-1 win and a solid position as the group stage enters its final games before the knockout stage gets underway. Felipe Baloy scored Panama’s only goal after capitalising on a free kick.
