Jose Mourinho set to sign new contract with Manchester United

Jose Mourinho, who is under contract to Man United until June 2019, is on the verge of signing a contract extension until 2021. Mourinho, 54 years of age, is in the middle of a three year contract with Man United.

Starting as player in the Portuguese Second Division before making his way into coaching in 1992 working for Lisbon’s Sporting CP, he eventually made his way to Barcelona in in 1996. Mourinho joined Chelsea in 2004 and remained with the club until May 2010 when he signed with the Real Madrid before returning to Chelsea in 2013. Mourinho joined Manchester United in May of 2016 where he took over the position of head coach from Louis van Gaal.

Jorge Mendes, Mourinho’s agent is believed to have begun discussing a contract extension with Man United in October of 2017. For his part, the coach made it clear early on that it was his desire to remain with the club and was totally committed to the club and stated that recent reports claiming he intended to leave was garbage.

He commented in January that he had,

‘no intention’ of leaving Manchester United”

One clear indicator of Mourinho satisfaction is the level of commitment shown by the club when it comes to going after players he wants and getting them signed. Man United is rumoured to be looking to sign a major player with rumours that the club is interested in Alexis Sanchez, who was in talks with Man City before those talks broke down. In order to Sanchez to make the move to Old Trafford depends on Henrikh Mkhitaryan agreeing to terms with Arsenal.

Alexis Sanchez, a Chilean international, is his country’s top scorer and was a key player in Chili playing the final in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. As a forward, he has scored 60 goals and earned 25 assists in 122 appearances.

Jose Mourinho has seen success at Man United. His first season as head coach saw the team winning the League Cup, the Community Shield and the Europa League. Finishing in sixth place, currently Man United is sitting twelve points behind Man City in second in the Premier standings.

At the time of writing, Manchester United has yet to confirm or comment on whether they are in talks to extend Mourinho’s contract. The club is set to play Burnley on the 20th, and Tottenham on the 31st.
