Washington Capitals Narrow Favourites for Game 3

Washington Capitals celebrating after game 2 victory in Stanley Cup Finals

The Washington Capitals are being heralded as slightly favoured by -125 to win Game 3 in the Stanley Cup final after winning Game 2 against the Vegas Golden Knights. The Capitals will head home for Game 3 against the Vegas Golden Knights.

While many sports betting sites taking action on the NHL Finals are finding this series a hard one to call, most bookmakers are favouring the Capitals, however, only slightly. In a series that has seen both teams defeat those they faced, and in one that has seen an expansion team go the distance, the series is simply too hard to call.

Winning Game 2 increased the Capitols record on the road to 9-2 in the postseason and managed to tie the series 1-1. As the series heads to the Capital One Arena in Washington, the Capitols home ice record is not as favourable as their record on the road having won four at home and list five.

While they were successful in taking the win in Vegas, the Capitals are still behind in the odds to win the Stanley Cup Finals, which would be a first for the franchise. Currently, they are considered the underdogs in the series sitting at +113.

What is needed by the Washington Capitals is Brayden Holty to continue to deliver big performances if they hope to hold off the Vegas Golden Knights. Holtby was specular in Game 2 and was instrumental in the Capitals coming away with the win. He stopped 37 out of 39 shots, and considering the Golden Knights have outshot the Capitals 73-54 in the first two games, Holtby will have his job cut out for him to say the least in Game 3.

The Golden Knights are hoping that Game 3 and 4 will see their postseason record on the road will continue to generate wins. Sitting at 6-2, the Golden Knights are the betting favourites overall as they continue with their record-setting first year as an expansion team in the NHL. Despite the disappointing loss last Wednesday, they remain a slight favourite to win the Cup.

The Golden Knights defence has been stung in the last eight games only letting past sixteen goals. Two of those eight saw Fleury, who has three Stanley Cup Rings in his collection, earning two shutouts. For the Capitals, breaking through that defence will be essential if they hope to see victory on Saturday night.

Both teams have strong goaltenders in their nets, and both are on their game in the post-season and have been instrumental in helping both teams make the finals. Sports bettors who have placed bets on UNDER have reaped the rewards as the Capitals have gone 4-1 in the last five games. Yet, those that have chosen to bet on the OVER have seen less favourable results.

What is certain is this is a series that has many unable to call the outcome as neither team is weak on power, speed, fight and determination. The Vegas Knights biggest advantage is they are a young team full of speed, and the Capitals are a team full of experience – how Game 3 will end is anybody’s guess.
