The Boston Fleet continued their strong run in the Professional Women’s Hockey League with a 5-1 win over the Vancouver Goldeneyes on Tuesday in Edmonton, closing out the league’s 16-game Takeover Tour on a high note.
Boston (14-5-2-4) stretched its winning streak to five games, moving within one point of the Montreal Victoire at the top of the standings.
Jaques Scored for Vancouver
Vancouver’s only goal came early in the third period from defender Sophie Jaques, offering a brief response before Boston closed out the game comfortably.
Goldeneyes starter Emerance Maschmeyer allowed five goals on 23 shots over two periods before Kristen Campbell came in and stopped all six shots she faced in the third.
The game was part of the PWHL’s neutral-site Takeover Tour in Edmonton, the third time the city has hosted such an event. Attendance was announced at 10,794, continuing interest in the league’s efforts to test markets outside its home cities.
Boston’s penalty kill once again proved reliable, shutting down all five Vancouver power plays. The unit remains the league’s best at 88 percent efficiency.
One early turning point came when Eldridge had a power-play goal disallowed for goaltender interference. She quickly responded less than a minute later, scoring on her own rebound to open the game’s scoring.
Four Games to Secure Postseason Position
With Montreal and the Minnesota Frost already locked into playoff spots, the Fleet now have four regular-season games left to secure their position heading into the postseason.
Jessie Eldridge scored two goals, while captain Megan Keller, Susanna Tapani, and Jamie Lee Rattray found the net in a balanced offensive effort.
Goaltender Aerin Frankel was solid once again, stopping 28 of 29 shots to record her 17th win of the season, tying her with Montreal’s Renée Desbiens for the league lead.
Special teams played a key role in the result. Keller scored short-handed, and Eldridge added a power-play goal in a dominant second period that pushed Boston firmly in control.
The Fleet now turn their attention to a key matchup against Montreal on Saturday, while Vancouver returns home to face Seattle next Tuesday.
