The Toronto Raptors won the 2019 NBA Championship but since they have struggled to remain as a serious contender for the last four seasons. The Raptors continue to struggle this season and are ranked in 12th place on the Eastern Conference leaderboard.

The Raptors have played 39 games as of this writing, winning just 16 and losing 23. They have won just 3 out of their last 10 games and have a lot of key decisions that need to be made before the looming Feb 9 trade deadline.

VanVleet Offered 4 Year – $114M Contract

Josh Lewenberg of TSN earlier reported that prior to the start of this season, Fred VanVleet was offered a four year contract extension by the Raptors valued at $114 million. VanVleet has played in the NBA for the last 7 seasons and all of them have been with the Raptors.

VanVleet last renewed his contract with the Raptors in 2020 for a four year period valued at $85 million.

The Raptors were keen on extending the 27 year old point guard’s contract with them but Lewenberg reported that VanVleet did not sign the contract nor did he turn it down. It appears that VanVleet wants to work out some challenges that he wants the Raptors to address before he puts pen to paper.

The Raptors are reported to have offered VanVleet the max that they were allowed in a bid to retain him but so far it hasn’t worked.

VanVleet Looking At More Game Time

We don’t know all of the challenges that VanVleet wants addressed but one of those challenges is getting more game time going forward. He has started for the Raptors for over three seasons but of late the Raptors haven’t used him as a key player.

VanVleet’s form this NBA season hasn’t been great and that’s one reason why he isn’t getting as much game time as he would like. His shooting has dropped to 37.7 percent this season and to 32.5 percent when shooting 3 pointers. His average per game stands at 18.8 points, 1.6 steals per game and 4.1 rebounds per game.
