The 2023 World Junior Championship is just a few days away but it hasn’t receive as much attention as it should in the media. This is because Hockey Canada continues to be at the center of a massive sexual assault scandal that it tried to cover up. 

Earlier this week, the the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) faced criticism over a sexual assault carried out by junior hockey players that the QMJHL said it knew nothing about.

Hockey Canada is looking to make amends and get the focus back on hockey and that starts with the 2023 World Junior Championship.

2023 World Junior Championship  

The 2023 World Junior Championship will take place in Moncton and Halifax. Canada has dominated the World Juniors Championship for a long time and are once again in a great spot to win their 20th World Juniors Champion as they have selected a really strong squad.

Team Canada have released the final roster which consists of 22 players. The majority of these players (10) are from the Western Hockey League (WHL), 4 of them from the QMJHL, another 4 from the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), 3 players are being loaned by National Hockey League (NHL) franchise and one player is from a US college. 

The 2023 World Junior Championship will commence from Dec 26 and will end on Jan 5, 2023. 

Team Canada – Look At The Final Roster  

It’s the dream of every young Canadian hockey player to make the cut and play at the 2023 World Junior Championship. Here is a look at the 22 players that made the final roster.

Defenders: Brandt Clarke, Nolan Allen, Ethan Del Mastro, Olen Zellweger, Kevin Korchinski, Tyson Hinds, Jack Matier.

Forwards: Shane Wright, Caedan Bankier, Colton Dach, Adam Fantilli, Zach Dean, Nathan Gaucher, Zack Ostapchuk, Dylan Guenther, Joshua Roy, Brennan Othmann, Logan Stankoven, Reid Schaefer, Connor Bedard.

Goalies: Thomas Milic, Benjamin Gaudreau.

The key players for Team Canada will be Connor Bedard and Shane Wright. Bedard has been outstanding and is all but certain to be the first pick in the 2023 NHL entry draft. Wright was picked by Seattle Kraken in 2022 and is being loaned to Hockey Canada for the World Junior Championship.
