Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue Break Their Short Dance World Record

Canadian’s Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue were on the mark today while performing in the short dance competition beating their world record in in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Olympic gold medallists in 2010, the pair are sitting in 1st place with a score of 83.67 points after dancing to Sympathy For The Devil, Hotel California and Oye Como Va.

Said Virtue,

We knew we wanted to peak right now and we had a vision for this program, and we’re thrilled with the way we executed today.

Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue were given top marks on all elements of their program including the midline step arrangement that got their program started and the rhumba sequence, one that failed to impress judges in the team event.

On their routine, Moir said,

We’ve worked really hard, we really believe in our plan, we want to win but we just got to get in our own little moment out there and connect with each other. We’ve been doing this a long time [and] we’ve come to realize how special these moments are to share together.

Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue could make Olympic history

Moir and Virtue, if successful on Monday during the final free dance skate, could join Russian skaters Evgeniy Platov and Pasha Grishuk to become only the second pair to ever win two golds in the ice dance competition. Moir and Virtue won gold at the Vancouver Games in 2010 and took home the silver medal in the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.

This year’s Winter Games are already off to a great start for the pair as they were part of the team event that won gold earlier this week. If they manage to win a third medal, they will match the record set by Russia’s Sergey Ponomarenko and Marina Klimova, who won bronze, silver and gold medals in 1984, 1988 and 1992

Frances Gabriella Papadakis experiences costume malfunction

Gabriella Papadakis suffers wardrobe malfunction at PyeongChang 2018France’s Guillaume Cizeron and Gabriella Papadakis are sitting being Mori and Virtue in 2nd place. The duo scored 81.93 for their performance on the ice, however, for Papadakis, it will be an Olympic skate not soon to be forgotten as the skates suffered a costume malfunction when a clasp broke causing her nipple to become exposed.

Papadakis commented on her malfunction saying,

It’s hard, you don’t train to lose a few points because of a costume.

Guillaume Cizeron, Papadakis partner added,

The costume issue happened and it took away our focus a little bit. It’s a little bit frustrating to know that it’s not because of something that we did, it’s just a costume issue, something as stupid as that so it’s a little bit disappointing.

U.S skaters, Zachary Donohue and Madison Hubbell, are currently in third after today’s skate and the American brother/sister of Maia and Alex Shibutani are in fourth and only two tenths behind teammates Donohue and Hubbell.

Canadians Andrew Poje and Kaitlyn Weaver are in eighth and not expected medal contenders. Unionville’s Paul Poirier and Piper Gilles are in ninth. For Gilles and Poirier, this is their first Olympic Winter Games.
