Live sport in Canada has been severely impacted in 2022 by numerous sexual assault allegations. Hockey Canada has remained at the center of a massive sexual assault cover-up while Gymnastics Canada has been tarnished for fostering a culture that allowed young gymnasts to be sexually abused for years.

The National Basketball League (NBA) has now been tarnished further by the lewd acts of a 19 year old Canadian who was the first round draft pick for the San Antonio Spurs in 2021.

San Antonio Spurs Sack Josh Primo

The San Antonio Spurs have confirmed that they have parted ways with Josh Primo who had 5.8 points, 1.6 assists and 2.3 rebounds in his rookie year with the Spurs. In 2022, Primo played 4 games for the Spurs and averaged 3.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 7 points. Primo’s stint with the Spurs was short lived due to his misconduct.

It is alleged that the 19 year old who hails from Mississauga, Ontario exposed himself to a female staffer that worked with the Spurs. The lady whose name is yet to be made public is no longer with the Spurs and has now hired Tony Buzbee as her legal counsel.

Buzbee was the lawyer who represented 24 women who alleged that Deshaun Watson, a quarterback from the Cleveland Browns had sexually harassed and assaulted them. The National Football League (NFL) ended up fining Brown $5 million and suspended him for 11 games without pay.

Unconfirmed sources claim that Primo has exposed himself to multiple women but so far does not have any active court cases.

Primo Claims Mental Illness

When news broke on social media of the Spurs and Primo parting ways, rumours started flying over potential sexual misconduct. It did not take long for Primo to respond as he released a statement to ESPN.

Primo said that he was seeking help to deal with trauma and will now make use of this break to focus on his mental health and get more treatment. He told his fans that he would appreciate the privacy and will look to discuss these challenges in the future so that he can help others going forward!
