Dubois' Overtime Goal Lifts Capitals Over Canucks in 2-1 Victory

Pierre-Luc Dubois scores overtime winner vs Vancouver Canucks during NHL Season 2024

Summary:

  • Pierre-Luc Dubois secured a 2-1 overtime victory for the Washington Capitals with his second goal of the night.
  • He scored with 40.3 seconds left, extending his team’s point streak to five games.
  • Vancouver’s Conor Garland scored the team’s only goal.

Pierre-Luc Dubois sealed the game for the Washington Capitals with his second goal of the night and seventh of the NHL season, scoring with just 40.3 seconds left in overtime.

The 26-year-old born in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts secured a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday, avoiding the need for another shootout after Washington’s earlier close calls this week.

30 Saves for Thompson, 16 for Lankinen

Despite putting on a poor performance, the Capitals continued their point-earning streak with a fifth consecutive game, largely thanks to Logan Thompson’s stellar goaltending.

Dubois struck first late in the opening period, beating Vancouver’s Kevin Lankinen with 32.7 seconds remaining.

His game-winner in the 3-on-3 overtime period came after Thompson delivered a standout performance, making 30 saves, including 20 in a hectic second period.

Washington struggled offensively, managing just 18 shots on net but held on to avoid a loss.

Vancouver’s Conor Garland provided the lone goal for the Canucks. The team has now dropped three straight and eight of their last ten games.

Lankinen made 16 saves in his effort to keep the game close, but it just wasn’t enough to stop Dubois and the Capitals in the end.

Ovechkin’s Second Goalless Game

Alex Ovechkin finished his second game without a goal. He is currently at 872 career goals, 23 shy from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record in the NHL.

For the Canucks, the absence of injured center Elias Pettersson continues to hurt their offensive rhythm.

While their defensive play showed improvement compared to recent outings, they are still not in top form.

On the other side, starting goaltender Thatcher Demko is close to making a comeback.

Up next, the Canucks will continue their five-game road trip on Friday with a game against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Capitals will return home to face the Montreal Canadiens. For the best ice hockey betting strategy take a look at our little guide for more information.
