Peru Eliminated after Losing to France 1-0

Kylian Mbappe celebrates after scoring the winning goal in France’s match against Peru

France has a secret weapon at their disposal as part of their arsenal of talent, and now one is the youngest to score in France’s World Cup history. At the tender age of 19, Kylian Mbappe is the youngest to ever play for the National team in France.

Playing in the biggest tournament of his young life earned him the reward of scoring the only and winning goal for France to give the National team a win over Peru and their subsequent elimination from the tournament.

Mbappe, who had only been born after  won the 1998 World Cup title when being interviewed after the win said,

“I’ve always said that the World Cup is a dream for any player. It is a dream come true and I hope I will have more like this.”

France won two of its matches in Group C and now advances to the next round. Mbappe was set by Paul Pogba, who beat Peru’s defender and sent the ball to Olivier Giroud who then passed it to Mbappa. Mbappe then tapped the ball past Peru’s goalkeeper, Pedro Gallese to give France the 1-0 lead.

After France’s match against Australia, Didier Deschamps, France’s coach, was unimpressed with the team’s performance and made a number of changes, even though France defeated the Aussie’s. This included Deschamps adding Blaise Matuidi and Olivier Giroud into the starting lineup. He maintained the original formation, and the result saw both players using their passing skills and speed to find gaps in Peru’s defence.

Peru’s coach, Ricardo Gareca said they did their best in the matches and had a different set of expectations in the game against France saying,

“I have nothing to hold against my players. France is a hard team to harness. France corrected its style over the course of the game, this proves that France is a great side.”

Peru’s Paolo Guerrero was unable to play Peru’s opening match against Denmark until a Swiss judge lifted a doping ban. The lifting of the ban was supported by multiple opposing team captains including Simon Kjaer from Denmark, Mile Jedinak from Australia and France’s Hugo Lloris. Each signed a letter to FIFA as a result.

Considering Paolo Guerrero was the best player on Peru’s National team, the lifting of the bane was welcomed news. Joining the match against France, Guerrero nearly scored in the final minutes, but his shot went wide of the net.

Coach Gareca made a note of his team’s control of the ball and that they created multiple opportunities but that they were unable to close on those. He mentioned that the lineup of Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe was instrumental in France’s win.

While Peru has no chance of advancing, they next will play Australia. France, who is confirmed to have advanced will play Denmark.
