Los Angeles Dodgers Win NL West title

The Los Angeles dodgers rush the field to congratulate pitch Walker Buehler after they won their sixth straight NL West Title

The Los Angeles Dodgers have once again won the NL West title, and in doing so, set a new record as the first team in the Major Leagues to win six titles consecutively since the Yankees won their ninth in 2006 after they defeated the Colorado Rockies 5-2.

The Dodgers put Walker Buehler on the mound, and for a rookie with a natural ability to stay calm and not get caught up in the action, he helped take L.A into the record books. His performance in the seventh was superb with only one hit given up on Monday night.

After the game, Buehler spoke with reporters and said it was a normal baseball game. He added,

“It’s hyped up, there’s an adrenaline, but you got to execute,” Buehler said. “That’s all you can do.”

As the defending and returning champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers will now face the Atlanta Braves in a best of five series starting this Thursday. Right fielder, Yasiel Puig promised the Dodgers will beat Atlanta as he commented to reporters. Puig added,

“No matter who’s coming, we’re going to the World Series and bring the 2018 championship here.”

The Colorado Rockies were playing their first chance at winning a division title and making franchise history, but it wasn’t to be. Colorado will now head off to Chicago and play the Cubs in the Wild Card game on Tuesday. For Rockies manager, Bud Black, he was proud of his guys saying they have been resilient all year long.

It may have been 90 degrees outside, but Buehler seemed unaffected and looked cool as he closed out game 163 of the regular season. Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, 24 year old Buehler has been a solid addition to the Dodgers pitching staff and has been so reliable lately that L.A’s manager, Dave Roberts was quick to give Buehler the chance to pitch such a crucial game, one that would ultimately decide the Dodgers fate for the post-season.

The only error Buehler made was when he cursed by mistake after being given the microphone after fans in attendances wanted to hear from him. The mistake generated some laughs as he covered his mouth in embarrassment.

However, after his performance on Monday night, there was little to be sorry for. Buehler started early and retired the first six batters and did not give up a run. Commenting on Buehler, Clayton Kershaw, a pitcher with the Dodgers said,

“Walker is a tremendous talent. His competitiveness is off-the-charts, his ability is off-the-charts.”

Buehler looked like he was on his way to a no hitter until Charlie Blackmon hit his first of two singles in the sixth inning. Max Muncy, who plays infield said,

“He didn’t fold at all under pressure. He went there and attacked them just like we knew he was going to.”
