Canada Secures 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup Spot With Bermuda Win

Summary:
- Canada’s 7-1 victory over Bermuda secured its spot in the 2025 FIFA U-17 Men’s World Cup in CONCACAF qualifying.
- Canada extended its winning streak to six matches, setting a new record for consecutive wins by a Canadian men’s youth team.
- The team is aiming for its first-ever win at the FIFA U-17 World Cup after qualifying for eight previous editions.
Aidan Evans put on a masterclass performance Sunday, netting four goals to propel Canada to the FIFA U-17 Men’s World Cup with a commanding 7-1 victory over host Bermuda in CONCACAF qualifying on the back of wins against Anguilla and Curaçao.
The 16-year-old Fulham U-18 striker scored first in the first half and burst into an explosive eight-minute display of force in the second half when he scored three more times, helping his team cap off a dominant qualifying campaign.
Canada finished atop Group A with a flawless 4-0-0 record, boasting a staggering 28-2 goal difference. Both goals conceded came from penalty shots.
Flawless 4-0-0 Record
Despite trailing 1-0 early, the Canadians stormed back with seven unanswered goals to secure their World Cup berth.
Andre Ali-Gayapersad, Kevin Khan, and Sergei Kozlovskiy also found the net as Canada unleashed six second-half goals. Harlem Bean-Fox scored Bermuda’s lone goal from the penalty spot.
The victory extended Canada’s winning streak to six matches, including a pair of friendly wins against Costa Rica and Mexico in November.
That streak set a new benchmark for consecutive wins by a Canadian men’s youth team, surpassing the previous record of five, which had stood since 1986.
Canada head coach Mike Vitulano said after
I asked them to push their limits every day, and they did just that. We wanted them to get that sixth win in a row today, and it’s a first in history. I think this group is special, they can go on to a World Cup and make history again.
Still Searching for Their First World Cup Match Victory
Heading into the final match, Canada was level on points with Curaçao and held a three-point edge over Bermuda.
However, with a commanding goal differential advantage (plus-20 compared to Curaçao’s plus-three), Canada was virtually guaranteed advancement even with a loss. Bermuda needed to win by a staggering 10-goal margin to overtake them.
Curaçao (3-1-0) secured second place in Group A, finishing behind Canada after a 4-2 win over Anguilla.
CONCACAF’s qualification format features 35 teams splitting into eight groups, with only the group winners earning a World Cup berth.
The tournament will expand to 48 teams and will take place annually from 2025 to 2029. Panama, Honduras, El Salvador, and the U.S. have already secured their spots in Qatar.
Despite qualifying for eight of the 19 previous FIFA U-17 World Cups, Canada is still searching for its first victory in the tournament, having managed just 11 goals while conceding 70.
