Blue Jays Defeat White Sox 8-4 for Ninth Straight Win

Joey Loperfido

Summary:

  • Joey Loperfido homered and drove in three as the Toronto Blue Jays topped the Chicago White Sox 8–4.
  • José Berríos had six strong innings.
  • The Jays tied their franchise record for wins during pre-All-Star Break, and are currently in the lead at 53-38 overall.

Joey Loperfido’s excellent Monday night performance with one home run and three runs helped the Toronto Blue Jays reach their ninth victory in a row following an 8-4 victory against the Chicago White Sox in the 2025 MLB season.

Toronto’s Offense, On Fire

Toronto’s offense was firing on all cylinders. Addison Barger and Nathan Lukes also went deep, while Bo Bichette chipped in with a pair of hits and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. drew three walks.

The AL East leaders are currently sitting at 27–10 over their last 37 contests and 53–38 overall, which means they have officially tied the franchise record for most wins before the break when the 95th All Star Game will take place.

John Schneider’s side has been on its hottest run since the 11-game winning streak feat back in August 2015

José Berríos’s solid performance on the mound, where he threw six innings and allowed just one run, made all the difference.

After a rough outing against the Yankees in his previous start, Berríos was relieved to bounce back and deliver for his team.

Chicago Couldn’t Sustain Its Offense

For the White Sox, Mike Tauchman did his best to keep things close with three hits and two RBIs. However, Chicago seemed to be stuck in last place and couldn’t sustain much offense.

Colson Montgomery, one of the club’s top prospects, made his home debut but went 0-for-3 with a walk.

Toronto broke the game open in the sixth, stretching a 3–1 lead to 8–1. Barger launched his 12th homer, a two-run shot off Sean Burke, and Loperfido followed with a two-run single that dropped just over the drawn-in infield.

Burke came into the game on a roll, but this time he was knocked around for six runs on six hits over just five-plus innings.

The 25-year-old right-hander had previously given up two earned runs in his three starts, but he couldn’t keep Toronto’s bats quiet.

The turning point came in the fifth inning, when Loperfido and Lukes hit back-to-back home runs to break a 1–1 tie and give the Jays a lead they never gave back. For Loperfido, it was his first homer of the season and the fifth of his career.

The White Sox have now dropped eight straight home games against the Blue Jays.

Up next, Toronto will send Chris Bassitt (8–4, 4.32 ERA) to the mound on Tuesday night, while Chicago will counter with Aaron Civale (0–3, 4.29 ERA).
