Thousands Of Fans Welcome New MLS Champions Toronto FC

Toronto FC created history over the weekend by becoming the first Canadian team to win the MLS Cup. The final on Saturday was a repeat of the 2016 final as Toronto FC once again took on the Seattle Sounders. The 2016 final did not go Toronto’s way and they were determined to not let that happen once again in 2017.

The game took place at the BMO field and Toronto FC put up a stellar performance and outplayed Seattle throughout the game. They finished with a 2-0 scoreline and the Reds were thrilled in becoming the first Canadian team to get their hands on the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy.

While soccer is not as popular as the NHL or the NBA, Toronto FC has built a strong fan base throughout Canada and is very popular in Toronto. The city of Toronto was thrilled to see their team pull of a magnificent victory and give them another reason to celebrate. Toronto also celebrated towards the end of November when the Toronto Argonauts won the Grey Cup at the CFL.

Toronto FC had a wonderful homecoming as the team boarded a double decker bus to cruise the streets and have a victory parade. Thousands of fans took to the streets in Toronto to wearing red to welcome their team and showed their support to the Reds by braving the cold, waving flags and chanting.

Michael Bradley, the captain of Toronto FC along with his team stood on top of the double decker bus, proudly lifting the trophy and waved to their legion of fans. The team bus would stop at Nathan Phillips Square for fans to see the players up close and to hear Bradley speak.

In a statement, Bradley said

This has been our dream, our obsession for the last year. And to be able to take care of everything that we wanted, to lift that trophy in this city in front of our fans, to give everybody a day like this…this is why every single one of us is here

It’s taken Toronto FC over a decade to turn themselves into a team that can play with the best and beat the best in the MLS. Their fans have been loyal to them even though the results haven’t been great during the earlier years. Bradley said that his team is going to take some time to enjoy this victory but will then get back to work and focus on lifting back-to-back MLS Championships.
