  • Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and wife were in attendance
  • UFC fighters and fans criticize Zuckerberg for not wanting to sit amongst the fans

The UFC stages fight cards just about every weekend, with one pay per view card each month and the remaining cards are UFC Fight Night cards.

The UFC has used its Apex Center in Las Vegas, Nevada to host Fight Cards on a regular basis during the last couple of years and the Apex Center played host to Fight Night 61 which was headlined by Mckenzie Dern vs. Yan Xiaonan

Mark Zuckerberg Has Private UFC Event

The UFC did something unusual a few days before Fight Night 61 could take place. The UFC suddenly informed the media that this event would be a closed door event and no fans or media would be allowed to attend this card. The UFC did not give out any information as to why it made this decision and UFC President Dana White dodged the question by saying he wanted to give the media a rest from their jobs.

Mckenzie Dern let it slip during one of her media day interviews that the UFC decided to make Fight Night 61 a closed door event because Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was going to be in attendance and preferred for it to be a private, closed door event. UFC President Dana White took to social media to deny those claims and state that Mark Zuckerberg did not rent out the Apex Center.

Fight Night 61 did not take place without fans and the media present but Zuckerberg and his wife were seated ringside. Zuckerberg who has posted pictures of him training MMA, appeared to have enjoyed the fights. Zuckerberg is also reported to have brought some members of his Facebook team to the event.

Dana White would also post a picture of him and Zuckerberg together on social media.

Zuckerberg Criticized For Not Wanting To Sit With Fans

Zuckerberg got called out on social media by a number of UFC fighters and fans. The controversial Facebook CEO was accused of not wanting to sit amongst the common man and making the Fight Card more about him than the fighters who were on it.

Former UFC lightweight title challenger Al Iaquinta said the best part of a UFC event was the crowd going wild and Zuckerberg prevented the fighters from experiencing that rush.  Iaquinta ended by saying ‘stay home bro wtf’!
