Ottawa Senators for Sale

Summary

  • Over 15 interested parties have filed applications to buy the Ottawa Senators
  • Preliminary shortlisting process will take place in coming weeks
  • NHL Commissioner confirms Ottawa Senators could move to LeBreton Flats

The Senators Sports and Entertainment announced in Nov 2022 that they were putting up the Ottawa Senators for sale and had hired Galatioto Sports Partners, a New York bank to oversee the sale.

Since then, Ottawa Senators fans have been very keen on knowing what is happening behind the scenes with regards to the sale of the NHL franchise.

NHL Commissioner Says Over 15 Applications

Gary Bettman, NHL Commissioner gave Senators fans an update over the weekend just before the NHL All-Star Game in Florida could take place. Bettman announced that there are more than 15 groups that have sent in their application, expressing interest in acquiring the Ottawa Senators.

Galatioto Sports Partners has set up a website to facilitate the sale and has asked all interested parties to submit their applications via the websites. Interested parties have to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and can then get access to account details of the Senators finances to review the same and make a preliminary bid.

Bettman said that he expected those applications to be reviewed in the coming weeks and a shortlisting process will take place based on the preliminary bids sent in.

We don’t know all of the 15 applicant names as of now but some of the parties that expressed interest in acquiring the Senators included Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds, Jeffrey and Michael Kimel who are based in Toronto, entrepreneur Michael Andlauer and Jeff York who is the co-CEO of Farm Boy. Ottawa Senators Could Move To LeBreton Flats

When Senators Sports and Entertainment announced that the Ottawa Senators would be up for sale, they confirmed that they would only sell the team to an owner who agreed to keep the Senators in Ottawa.

Commissioner Bettman reiterated that condition and said that whoever buys the Senators will continue to keep the NHL franchise in Ottawa. However, Bettman did say that the new owners would be given the option to re-locate the team to LeBreton Flats.

The National Capital Commission (NCC) reported last month that they were continuing to hold talks with the Ottawa Senators to get the team to sign a long-term lease for an arena at LeBreton Flats
