Stroll Finishes 7th At The Canadian GP With Verstappen Taking The Win

Lance Stroll holds off Nico Hulkenberg at the Canadian Prix 2024

Summary:

  • Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has won this third straight Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday.
  • McLaren’s Lando Norris finished second, and George Russell of Mercedes finished third.
  • Canadian Lance Stroll took the 7th position.

This year’s Canadian Grand Prix (GP) was hit with bad, gloomy weather. However, this did not prevent an impressive crowd of around 350,000 spectators from rolling into Notre Dame Island to watch history in the making.

The red Ferrari and orange and McLaren neon yellow rain ponchos crowd watched over the tracks as F1 leader Max Verstappen of Red Bull drove into his third win in a row in Montreal.

The 26-year-old from the Netherlands had finished in sixth position at the Monaco GP and dealt with car problems during the weekend, including battery-induced smoke spatting issues during Friday’s practice session.

However, this didn’t stop him and his team from coming out with flying colors. “As a team, we made the right calls today“, Verstappen explained.

Verstappen Joins Schumacher and Hamilton

Verstappen has now joined the very short list of F1 drivers who have won three consecutive Canadian GPs made up of seven-time world champions Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.

Last year, at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Verstappen led all 70 laps and won by almost 10 seconds.

On Sunday, he started the race second, behind pole-winner George Russell.

F1 fans witnessed a series of spectacular overtakes and three chances in leadership amid tricky weather conditions, which made everything even more dramatic.

Eventually, Red Bull’s driver, who described competing in bad weather as “a lot of fun”, won by 3.879 seconds.

Verstappen added that while he enjoys “these kinds of races now and then”, they can also be stressful.

It’s great to have three wins in a row here. I hope I can add more in the future“, he said.

The win also marks his 60th career victory as well as his 50th victory in the last 75 races that he attended.

Norris and Russell on the Podium, Lance Stroll in 7th

Verstappen was joined by McLaren’s Lando Norris and Mercedes’ George Russell on the podium in the second and third positions, respectively.

Norris was disappointed by his team’s calls, expressing frustration because they did not win the race.

We had the pace, We should have won today. It’s as simple as that.

Montreal’s Lance Stroll finished in the seventh position, marking his best result on his home track.

Stroll described the track as “tough” because of the harsh conditions, adding he was “really satisfied to score points“.

The 25-year-old added that “the sixth and seventh positions are really good for the team“.

The Canadian GP racetrack at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is under contract with F1 until 2031.

The F1 series will make a comeback to Europe on June 23 for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix.
