Women’s soccer has grown in popularity with every passing year in Canada hence why earlier year CanWNT demanded equality and support from Canada Soccer and the 2023 FIFA World Cup for women will further help to spread women’s football around the world. The 2023 FIFA World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand across 9 cities.

A total of 32 nations will take place at the World Cup and 64 matches will be played during the soccer tournament which takes place from July 20 to August 20.

Canada Soccer Shortlists 25 Potential Players

Canada Soccer has made a shortlist of 25 players who will be a part of the pre-tournament camp roster. There are some surprises with the selection as Canada Soccer has picked 8 players who have never played at a World Cup event before. The average age of the 25 member squad is 27 as Canada looks to blood a few new players at the World Cup in preparation for the future.

Christine Sinclair has been tasked with the responsibility to captain Team Canada at the World Cup. The 40 year old Sinclair will be playing at her 6th World Cup and likely her last one before she retires and passes on the baton. Sinclair has played 323 times for Canada and is the top goal scorer in the world with 190 goals.
