Canada Soccer “In Close Communication” with Bayern to Monitor Davies’ Injury

Summary:
- Alphonso Davies suffered a torn hamstring muscle while playing for Bayern Munich and is out for now.
- Canada Soccer says its medical staff is in contact with Bayern
- His status matters with friendlies coming soon and the World Cup approaching this summer.
Canada Soccer is staying in touch with Bayern Munch as Alphonso Davies recovers from a hamstring injury that could affect his next appearances for the national team.
Davies tore a muscle fibre in his right hamstring during Bayern’s 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. The German club confirmed he will be out for now, and coach Vincent Kompany said the recovery could take anywhere from two to four weeks.
No Decision Yet
Canada Soccer said its own medical team is working closely with Bayern’s staff while Davies begins his recovery, and no decision has been made about whether he will be able to play in March.
Canada Soccer’s announcement said,
Our Men’s National Team’s medical staff continues to be in close communication with FC Bayern Munich’s medical staff concerning Alphonso Davies. A determination on his availability for the upcoming March international window has not yet been made.
The association went on to say that the full team roster will be officially revealed “in the coming weeks”.
Bad Timing
The timing is not ideal, as Canada is scheduled to play Iceland on March 28 and Tunisia on March 31 at BMO Field in Toronto. Davies’ status for those soccer games remains uncertain.
Injuries have already forced him to miss significant time over the past year. He was sidelined for nearly nine months after suffering a serious knee injury while playing for Canada last March.
Davies remains one of the team’s most important players, especially with the World Cup coming this summer. Canada will open its tournament on June 12 in Toronto against an opponent that has not yet been confirmed, before facing Qatar and Switzerland later in the group stage in Vancouver.
For the time being, Canada Soccer and Bayern Munich will continue to monitor his recovery before deciding when he can return.
