Blue Jays Rally Late But Fall Short in 11-10 Loss to Boston

Summary:
- The Blue Jays scored four runs early and later led 7-4, but the Red Sox answered with a six-run sixth inning.
- The Jays pushed back with three runs in the ninth
- Pitching struggles hurt Toronto, while Boston finished with 15 hits from 11 players.
The Toronto Blue Jays nearly pulled off a comeback on Sunday, but their late push wasn’t enough in an 11-10 loss to the Boston Red Sox in the 2026 Grapefruit League play.
Early Lead for the Jays
Toronto wasted no time getting on the board. In the first inning, Eloy Jiménez, Leo Jiménez, and Arjun Nimmala each drove in runs to help build an early four-run cushion. That lead didn’t last long, though, as Boston quickly matched it in the bottom half.
The game stayed tight, and the Blue Jays looked to have regained control in the sixth. Eloy Jiménez went deep for a solo home run, and Josh Kasevich followed with a two-run shot, putting Toronto ahead 7-4.
Boston gave a firm response, breaking things open with six runs in the bottom of the inning, flipping the game and taking the momentum with them. They later managed to stretch the advantage to 11-7.
Toronto made things interesting in the ninth. Tucker Toman and Yohendrick Pinango both hit RBI doubles, and Robert Brooks added an RBI single to bring the Blue Jays within one run. With the tying run still in reach, reliever Jay Allmer struck out Sean Keys to end the game.
Hard Day for Young Pitchers
It was a tough day on the mound for Toronto’s young pitchers. Starter Fernando Perez, a 22-year-old prospect, gave up four runs while getting just two outs. Yariel Rodríguez also had trouble, allowing six runs in less than an inning of work.
Boston’s offence stayed busy throughout the game, finishing with 15 hits. Braiden Ward, Ceddanne Rafaela and Nate Eaton each drove in two runs.
The Blue Jays will be back in action Monday when they host the New York Mets in Dunedin. Toronto’s regular season begins March 27 at Rogers Centre against the Athletics.
