2025 IIHF WJC To Get $4m Investment From Ontario

Hockey Canada has confirmed that the Province of Ontario will invest $4 million into the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship which is set to take place from Dec. 26, 2024 to Jan. 5, 2025 in Ottawa, Ontario.

2025 IIHF World Junior Championship

When Ottawa hosted the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2009, it ended up generating over $80 million for Ontario and Canada put on a fantastic performance that saw them win their 5th gold medal in front of a packed out stadium.

Ontario is looking to put on a mega show for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship with the minister of tourism, culture and sport Neil Lumsden announcing at the Canadian Tire Centre that Ontario will pump in $4 million into the competition. The Canadian Tire Centre will play host to most of the games during the competition in 2025.

In a statement, Lumsden said

Our government is proud to support the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa. This world-class tournament will reinforce Ontario’s reputation as a leading destination for hosting international sporting events. I am confident that the 2025 World Juniors will also encourage hockey fans from near and far to visit the National Capital Region and discover all that it has to offer, benefiting both local businesses and the residents of Ottawa for years to come.

Priority Ticket Sales Starts Dec 14

The World Juniors will see a total of 29 games taking place but there will be a lot of action taking place before the tournament begins as pre-tournament games will take place throughout Ottawa.

The demand for tickets for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship is at an all-time high and the demand is a lot greater than the supply. As a result, a priority ticket draw will take place on Dec 14, 2023 and fans will need to register in advance to stand a chance to get tickets via the priority draw. 

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and Hockey Canada will release the Groups and full schedule for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship after the 2024 World Juniors in Gothenburg, Sweden is completed. The selection camp for the 2024 World Juniors will commence on Dec 10.
