Toronto Blue Jays Take 7-5 Win against the Twins

Toronto Blue jays being congratulated after making it to home plate in 7-5 victory against the Twins

The Toronto Blue Jays, down Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson, managed to put together the offence they are known for to edge out the Minnesota Twins 7-5.

Donaldson is on the disabled list and has missed the last 16 games, and with Bautista out of action and Kendrys Morales slow to find his groove, the Jays saw Russel Martin and Justin Smoak both earning runs to help push the Jays out from and earn the win.

Justin Smoak sent a shot to right field and into the stands to earn a home run and end a 4th inning run that saw the Jays leading 5-0. Russel Martin added another run for the Blue Jays in the 5th inning to help give Toronto its second win in a row.

Seeking about the game, Josh Gibbons, Manager for the Blue Jays said,

“You’re going to play many a game like that. It never feels good. They had the tying run at second, but we got our closer out there. Bottom line, we won that thing. We had a chance early on to really blow it open.”

The Twins have lost the last 10 games out of 11 falling short against the Jays. They had runners on 2nd and 3rd and failed to get the job done after a hard drive by Roberto Osuna dropped short in the 9th inning.

Paul Molitor, a former Blue Jay and now manager of the Minnesota Twins said,

“There were some positives. You kind of try to look for things when wins are hard to come by. Obviously, we’ve been facing a lot of deficits early in games.”

The Blue Jays fell to last place in the AL East last year in scoring and placed 7th in home runs. Sundays win against the Texas Rangers put the Jays tied for home runs in the MBA and fifth in scored run, and that will certainly help change how baseball betting bookmakers set odds for the Jays going into the next series of games. Pitcher Aaron Sanchez, who is 2-2 for the season, was on the mound for six innings allowing only four runs and walked three batters.

Minnesota pitcher Lance Lynn is 3-0 for the season failed to take control and was pulled in the 5th inning yet again, the fourth time in five of his starts this year. He gave up six runs in the five innings he was on the mound and saw five batters walked.

Commenting on his performance so far this season, Lynn stated,

“I’m going to be all right. I’ve just got to be me and attack hitters and make pitches. I’ve got the ability to do that. I’ve showed that over the course of my career. And now I’ve just got to go do it.”

Eduardo Escobar sent a two run hit in the 5th and Max Kelper earned a double RBI late in the 7th, first basemen Logan Morrison hit a pop fly with runners on first and second and that brought an end to the ninth inning and the win for the Jays.

The Jays will play the Twins again tomorrow for an afternoon game before heading to Cleveland to face the Indians.
