Ottawa Senators Go From Bad To Worse After Losing To Sabers

The season long struggle of the Ottawa Senators continue as the team succumbed to a new low falling to the Buffalo Sabers on Tuesday night 3-2. The Sabers are the lowest ranked team in the NHL.

The loss marks the end of an extended road trip which saw the Senators drop their last five games. During the span of these last five games, the team has only scored five goals in total, while averaging four goals allowed per game.

The first period of the Buffalo Sabers game saw no scoring as both teams could not seem to get in the groove right away. That all changed in the second period when the Sabers where able to score three straight goals against the Senator’s struggling goaltender Mike Cordon. Senator’s center Derrick Brassad helped salvage some pride after he was able to score with help from Cody Ceci.

He scored during the third period to make the score at the time 3-1. The Senators were able to score again late in the third and after pulling Cordon for an extra attacker. The 3-2 loss to the Sabers is another embarrassing defeat for the Senators who are running out of time to turn their season around.

When asked about the loss, team captain Erik Karlsson struggled to find the right words and ended up saying that the team wasn’t playing bad but they were also not playing good. Karlsson admitted that the Senators were making far too many mistakes which opposing teams were capitalizing on. One such mistake is the lack of strong power play time. Ottawa went 0-3 in power play opportunities on Tuesday, which places them currently 28th in the league when it comes to power play percentage.

Senators head coach Guy Boucher believes that the team is not playing well because of the accumulated stress the team has had to endure during their long road trip. Boucher also said the Senators continued to remain positive and there still is enthusiasm amongst the players despite the slow season start.

While there is a large amount of enthusiasm in the Senators’ locker room, it does not change the bottom line that the team is losing. Its’ up to Boucher to help guide his players to improve or else the voices that have been starting to call for his removal might gain more traction in the Senators locker room.

The Senators will want to turn things around in their next game against the New York Rangers which takes place on December 13, for the latest odds check out our exclusive NHL betting section.
