Canadiens Embarrass Senators In Front Of Their Home Crowd

Ottawa Senators vs. Montreal CanadiensThe Ottawa Senators started as the favourites in their game against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night. Montreal was coming off a victory but were the underdogs because they were facing the Senators at home and also because they had not won back to back games this season.

Ottawa looked a bit weak as three of their regular players were out of action with Mark Borowiecki getting rested due to a sudden illness, Bobby Ryan recovering from a broken finger and Kyle Turris who is battling a viral infection. However Ottawa still had enough firepower to send Montreal packing atleast on paper.

The Montreal Canadiens caught Ottawa completely off-guard as they played aggressively throughout the game and put the Ottawa defense under pressure and goalkeeper Craig Anderson had an exceptionally bad night at the Canadian Tire Centre as Montreal finished the game with an 8-3 scoreline.

Charles Hudon had never scored an NHL goal till date but decided to that it was his night and scored two goals and provided one assist. Artturi Lehkonen wasn’t going to be outdone by Hudon and also scored two goals for Montreal. Alex Galchenyuk, Max Pacioretty, Tomas Plekanec and Brendan Gallagher also made the most of some poor defending and scored for Montreal to make it a very one sided game. Montreal will now be on a high as they have won three out of their last four NHL games.

Senators captain Erik Karlsson also had a poor game and was off the ice for seven out of the eight Montreal goals. He had a poor game by his standards but knows that the Ottawa Senators played poorly as a team in front of their home fans which was an embarrassing experience for the Senators.

In a statement, Karlsson said

It was definitely one of those games where we didn’t play the way we’re supposed to or wanted to. It felt like, myself included, every decision that we made ended up not being the one we were hoping for. In this business, it’s happened before and it’s probably going to happen again

Senators coach Guy Boucher also took it on the chin saying that it wasn’t great to have a stinker at home. The Senators will have a chance to redeem themselves by putting in a good performance on Thursday when they take on the Detroit Red Wings.
