Canadian hockey fans will tune into the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup which is set to take place from July 31 to Aug 05. The Hlinka Gretzky Cup will be held in Slovakia and Czechia and Team Canada will look to defend their championship, having won the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup after beating Sweden 4-1.

2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup

The U-18 tournament promises a lot of action and excitement each year as some of the most promising players in hockey get to showcase their skills at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. A total of 8 teams will take part in this tournament and the favorites will be defending champs Canada.

Team Canada has won 3 out of the last 5 tournaments, only losing in 2020 and 2022 to Russia. Their biggest challenge this year is likely to come from the United States as Russia is not part of the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup as they are banned due to their on-going war against Ukraine.

The eight teams are divided into two groups with Group A featuring Sweden, Czechia, Germany and USA. Group B will feature Canada, Finland, Slovakia and Switzerland.

The group stage games for Team Canada will start with their opening game against Finland on July 31, followed by a game against Slovakia on Aug 01 and their final group stage game on Aug 02 against Switzerland. The final will take place on Aug 05.
