Homan and Dunstone Capture PointsBet Invitational Titles in Calgary

Teams Homan and Dunstone win 2025 Pointsbet Invitational titles

Summary:

  • Rachel Homan extended her dominance with a 6-2 win over Corryn Brown, marking 27 straight victories against Canadian teams.
  • Matt Dunstone claimed his first PointsBet Invitational crown, beating Brad Jacobs 6-4 in the men’s final.
  • Both teams now shift focus toward the Canadian Olympic trials

Rachel Homan isn’t showing any signs of tiredness when it comes to her dominance over Canadian women’s curling. On Sunday afternoon, she capped off another flawless week by defeating Corryn Brown of Kamloops, B.C., 6-2 and taking home the PointsBet Invitational title

The win at the WinSport Event Centre marks almost one year since her last loss to a Canadian opponent.

All Eyes on Halifax in November

Homan called their opponents’ play “great” for the entirety of the week, which made them aware of the need to bring their “A game”. The 36-year-old Ottawa-based rink went on to say,

It looked they were gonna get a big end there, but we were able to capitalize on a couple mistakes and get a lead.

Brown’s team had a few early chances but failed to convert. Trailing 1-0, Brown overshot a tap for two in the fourth end, handing Homan a steal of one. Another missed double in the fifth gave up another point, putting Brown in a 3-0 hole, a tough spot against a team as clinical as Homan’s.

Homan, third Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew, and lead Sarah Wilkes have not lost to another Canadian team since October 6, 2024, when they fell to Kerri Einarson in Charlottetown. Since then, Homan has collected no less than 27 straight domestic wins, plus a third consecutive PointsBet title and back-to-back championships at both the Scotties and world women’s curling events.

Homan

We’ve just got to make sure that we keep getting better as the season goes on. That’s our focus. Right now, it’s not the time to celebrate, it’s time to keep working hard. Our goal is the end of November.

The goal she is referring to is the Canadian Olympic trials, set for November 22–30 in Halifax, where the country’s top eight men’s and women’s teams will compete to represent Canada at the 2026 Winter Games in Italy.

Coach Nedohin: “They’re Looking for the Millimetre”

New coach Heather Nedohin, a two-time Canadian champion herself, has been with the team for just over a month but already sees what makes them special.

There’s no complacency. When they’re out practising, they’re refining every laser beam, every video review. They’re not looking for the inch, they’re looking for the millimetre.

Despite the loss, Corryn Brown was upbeat. Her Kamloops team, Erin Pincott, Sarah Koltun, and Samantha Fisher, had gone winless at last week’s grand slam event but rebounded to reach the PointsBet final.

Obviously today’s game wasn’t what we would have liked, but I think we’re really happy with the steps we’ve made this week and really proved that we belong here

Dunstone Took Down Team Brad Jacobs for the Title

Later in the day, Winnipeg’s Matt Dunstone earned his first PointsBet Invitational title, beating Calgary’s Brad Jacobs 6-4 after falling short in the past two finals.

We were due to win this one. Lost two finals prior to it, so it was nice to finish one off.

He went on to call the game “wild” with “two heavyweights going at it, throwing haymakers at each other”, which is exactly what fans want to see. “I have a funny feeling you’ll be seeing a little bit more of it moving forward“, the 30-year-old added.
