Rays Beat Blue Jays 5-1, Extend Hot Streak to Four

Tampa Bay Rays players celebrate win over the Toronto Blue Jays during 2026 MLB Season

Summary:

  • The Toronto Blue Jays lost 5-1 to the Tampa Bay Rays.
  • Kevin Cash’s side grabbed its fourth win in a row and the 10th in the last 11 games it played.
  • Ryan Vilade hit a three-run homer in the first inning while strong pitching limited Toronto to just one run.

The Tampa Bay Rays continued their strong run of form with a 5-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night in the MLB, powered by an early burst and steady pitching.

Vilade Brought the First Three-Run Homer of the Season

Ryan Vilade set the tone right away, sending the first pitch he saw deep for a three-run homer in the opening inning.

The shot traveled 413 feet and gave Tampa Bay a quick 3-0 lead, marking the team’s first three-run homer of the season and just the second of Vilade’s major league career.

From there, the Rays stayed in control, as Jonathan Aranda kept the offense moving, finishing 3 for 5 with a run scored. His performance followed another big day at the plate, after he delivered a game-ending hit in extra innings the day before.

Jays Got on Board in the Third Inning

Toronto managed to get on the board in the third inning when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. drove in a run with a single, cutting the deficit to 3-1. But that was as close as the Blue Jays would get.

In the sixth inning, Tampa Bay added insurance. With two outs and the bases loaded, Taylor Walls came through with a two-run single to extend the lead to 5-1 and take pressure off the pitching staff.

Nick Martinez delivered a solid outing for the Rays. He worked five innings, allowing just one run while striking out four. He kept Toronto’s lineup in check and improved his record to 3-1 on the season.

The bullpen handled the rest without trouble, with Bryan Baker closing things out in the ninth to earn his ninth save.

For Toronto, Eric Lauer struggled early, giving up three runs over 4 1/3 innings. The Blue Jays showed some life at the plate, with Yohendrick Pinango collecting three hits and scoring a run, but they were unable to build any momentum.

The loss continues a tough stretch on the road for Toronto, which now sits at 6-11 away from home and has struggled in series openers.

Meanwhile, Tampa Bay has now won four straight games and 10 of its last 11, showing consistency on both sides of the ball as the season gains pace.
