Nicholas and Jason Robertson chase the puck for opposing teams during NHL season 2024

Summary:

  • Nicholas Robertson’s goal and assist against his brother Jason’s Dallas Stars secured a 5-3 victory for the Maple Leafs.
  • The win marked Toronto’s fourth in five games, solidifying their position on top of the Atlantic Division.
  • William Nylander scored two goals, and Joseph Woll delivered a standout performance with 38 saves.

On Wednesday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs triumphed over the Dallas Stars 5-3. Nicholas Robertson scored the go-ahead goal, assisted on another, and delivered a standout performance against his older brother’s team.

Fourth Win in Five Games

William Nylander netted two goals, and Joseph Woll’s stellar goaltending helped secure the win for Toronto, who currently leads the Atlantic Division.

Woll was exceptional, stopping 38 shots to give the Maple Leafs their fourth win in five games. The 26-year-old Missouri-born is 9-4 in 13 starts this season after a 12-11 finish last year at the end of 23 games.

The night turned in Toronto’s favor when Robertson scored the decisive goal, making it 3-2 with an unassisted effort at 5:31 of the second period.

His goal came just 16 seconds after Nylander leveled the score with his first goal of the game. Later in the same period, Robertson set up Bobby McMann for another goal while his older brother, Jason Robertson, was on the ice for Dallas.

Oettinger Recorded Second Defeat on His Birthday

Toronto’s quick offense proved to be a challenge for Dallas’ goaltender Jake Oettinger.

On his 26th birthday, Oettinger allowed four goals on just eight shots and suffered his second defeat in 14 starts this season at American Airlines Center – which would not have done any good on hockey odds for him this season.

He was replaced by Casey DeSmith at the start of the third period.

Dallas’ offense saw contributions from Evgenii Dadonov and Sam Steel. Steel struck first, sending a shot over Woll’s right shoulder just 5:14 into the game.

However, the lead was short-lived, as Toronto’s Max Domi responded just 59 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1.

Dallas Captain Benn Reached Career Milestone

Captain Jamie Benn achieved a career milestone on the Stars’ side by playing in his 1,143rd game and surpassing Hall of Famer Mike Modano for the most games played since the franchise’s relocation to Dallas in 1993.

Modano continues to hold the overall franchise record with 1,459 games, including his stint before the team moved from Minnesota.

Nylander’s second goal of the night, which marked his 20th of the season, came on an empty net with just 1:43 remaining.

The goal came 33 seconds after Colin Blackwell capitalized on Dallas’ decision to use an extra attacker. Overall, Dallas was 0 for 4 on the power play.

Looking ahead for some hockey betting strategy, the Maple Leafs will meet the Buffalo Sabres on Friday. Meanwhile, the Stars will conclude their six-game homestand with a matchup against the New York Rangers.
