Pastrnak Hits 400 Goals as Bruins Beat Maple Leafs

David Pastrnak celebrates scoring his 400th career goal with teammates during 2025 NHL Season

Summary:

  • David Pastrňák scored twice in 5-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
  • The player marked his 400th career goal during his team’s extended winning streak to seven games.
  • Leafs’ Auston Matthews left with a lower-body injury as the team dropped its third straight.

David Pastrňák had a night to remember in Toronto, scoring twice and picking up an assist as the Boston Bruins extended their winning streak to seven games after being crushed by the Senators with a 5-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.

400th Career Goal

The two goals put Pastrnak past the 400-goal mark for his career, making him just the sixth player in Bruins history to reach that milestone.

His first came less than a minute into the second period, giving Boston a 4-1 lead, and he added another on the power play midway through the third. He’s now one goal behind Rick Middleton for fifth place on the team’s all-time scoring list.

Pavel Zacha, Hampus Lindholm, and Alex Steeves also found the net for Boston. For Steeves, it was a particularly meaningful goal, his first as a Bruin after spending four years in the Maple Leafs’ system. Jeremy Swayman was solid in goal, stopping 30 shots, while Charlie McAvoy chipped in two assists.

Footing and Goaltending, Issues for the Leafs

Toronto, meanwhile, had trouble finding its footing. Steven Lorentz scored shorthanded, with Bobby McMann and Oliver Ekman-Larsson also contributing goals. However, it wasn’t enough to stop the slide. The Maple Leafs have now dropped three straight games.

To make matters worse for Toronto, star forward Auston Matthews left the game with a lower-body injury and didn’t return for the third period.

Goaltending also became an issue, as starter Anthony Stolarz allowed three goals on 11 shots before leaving with an upper-body injury. Dennis Hildeby took over and made 19 saves in relief.

There was at least one bright spot for the Leafs, with Morgan Rielly recording an assist on McMann’s power-play goal late in the second period, moving past Tomas Kaberle for sixth on Toronto’s all-time assist list with 438. That’s second among defensemen in franchise history.

Next up, the Maple Leafs head home to face the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, while the Bruins continue their road trip with a visit to Ottawa to take on the Senators the same night.
