Dallas Stars Roll Past Oilers in Lopsided 8–3 Win

Summary:
- The Dallas Stars scored four times in the opening period and cruised to an 8–3 win against the Edmonton Oilers.
- Wyatt Johnston reached 100 career assists and 200 career points.
- Jason Robertson extended both his goal streak (seven games) and points streak (eight games).
The Edmonton Oilers didn’t have many chances to regroup and get back into the game on Tuesday, after the Dallas Stars scored four times in the first period. Wyatt Johnston led the way with a goal and three assists as Dallas rolled to an 8–3 win.
Oilers Dropped Four Out of Five
Jason Robertson added a goal and two assists, Nathan Bastian scored twice, and both Jamie Benn and Sam Steel chipped in with a goal and an assist. Roope Hintz and Justin Hryckowian rounded out the scoring for Dallas, which has been on a strong run with a 7-1-1 record in its last nine games.
The night also came with a major milestone. Benn became just the second player in team history to reach 400 goals, joining Mike Modano on that list.
For Edmonton, rookie Connor Clattenburg scored his first NHL goal in only his second game, while Evan Bouchard and Jack Roslovic added the other two.
The Oilers have now dropped four of their last five and continue to search for stability after a middling start to the season. They had knocked Dallas out of the Western Conference finals in each of the last two years, but this matchup didn’t follow the same script.
Jake Oettinger stopped 22 shots for Dallas. On the other side, Stuart Skinner’s night ended early after giving up four goals on eight first-period shots. Calvin Pickard came in for the second and made 18 saves the rest of the way.
Game Highlights
Dallas didn’t seem thrown off by the absence of Mikko Rantanen, who missed the game due to an automatic one-game suspension. He leads the league with 15 power-play points and also sits on top of the penalty-minutes list with 57, five more than Tom Wilson.
Clattenburg’s first NHL goal is a bright spot for Edmonton. The 20-year-old was a fifth-round pick in 2024 after going undrafted the year before and played junior hockey in Flint last season.
Johnston’s second assist of the game came on the Stars’ fourth goal and pushed him to 100 career assists, adding to the 100 career goals he reached on Nov. 13. With 200 points in 269 games, he’s now the third-fastest player to debut with Dallas to hit that mark, behind Robertson (190 games) and Hintz (263 games).
Robertson stayed hot with his 14th of the season, stretching his goal streak to seven games. He’s only the 13th American-born player to reach that number and now holds the franchise record. He also pushed his points streak to eight games, with 18 points in that stretch.
Up next in the 2025 NHL season, the Stars will meet the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday while Kris Knoblauch’s side will rest until Saturday, when they will also play against Seattle.
