Summary:

  • The Toronto Raptors lost 119-94 to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.
  • Poor free-throw shooting and missed chances halted the Raptors’ comeback attempts.
  • The Clippers have three straight wins in the West while the Raptors have three straight losses in the East.

The Toronto Raptors lost 119-94 to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. Kawhi Leonard led the way with 27 points, continuing his consistent form, while Darius Garland added 24, including a deep three-pointer at the end of the third quarter that helped shut down any momentum Toronto was trying to build in the latest NBA clash.

Three Consecutive Wins and Tight West Race

The Clippers also got valuable contributions from their supporting cast. Bennedict Mathurin scored 23 points off the bench, and Brook Lopez set the tone early, scoring 11 of his 14 points in the opening quarter.

Los Angeles has now won three straight games and remains in a tight race in the Western Conference, holding a slight edge over the Portland Trail Blazers for eighth place.

Toronto had moments where it threatened to get back into the game, but it struggled to keep up over four quarters. Brandon Ingram led the Raptors with 18 points, while Sandro Mamukelashvili added 13 and hit a pair of three-pointers late in the third quarter to spark a brief run.

14-Point Lead Closed the Period

The game began to slip away from Toronto in the first quarter. After a relatively even start, the Clippers closed the period with a 23-9 run, opening up a 14-point lead.

That advantage grew to 22 points in the second quarter before the Raptors responded with an 11-1 run. Even then, missed chances hurt them.

Toronto grabbed 10 offensive rebounds in the second quarter but struggled to convert, and their free-throw shooting was especially poor, making just one of seven attempts.

Los Angeles stayed in control for the rest of the night, pulling away again after Garland’s long three at the third-quarter buzzer. The Clippers were efficient at the line, hitting 19 of 24 free throws and outscoring Toronto by 15 points from the stripe.

Toronto also had a brief injury concern when Jakob Poeltl left the game after taking a hit near his eye. He later returned and finished with 10 points.

The Raptors have now lost three straight and remain in a tight race in the Eastern Conference standings.
