Gaudette Broke a Tie With 4 Minutes on the Clock
Braintree, Massachusetts native Gaudette managed to break a 3-3 tie with just over four minutes remaining.
He redirected a sharp feed from Tim Stutzle (22) past Sharks goalie Mackenzie Blackwood (27).
The goal marked Gaudette’s fourth in as many games, continuing his red-hot form.
The player has been thriving since his promotion to the top line, scoring 11 goals on just 31 shots this season. His efficiency (2.61 goals per 60 minutes) trails only Alex Ovechkin league-wide.
San Jose had erased a two-goal deficit earlier in the third period with tallies from Macklin Celebrini (18) and Will Smith (19).
Stutzle shone as a playmaker, assisting on three of Ottawa’s four goals, bringing his season total to 28 points in 21 games, the largest number of points scored by any player under 23 in the league.
Back-to-Back Victories for Senators
The Senators wasted no time taking control, scoring twice on their first three shots to jump to a 2-0 lead after the first period.
Gaudette netted the opener at even strength, and Josh Norris (25) followed with a power-play marker, both set up by Stutzle.
Tyler Kleven (22) added to the scoring, notching his first NHL goal, while Mario Ferraro (26) got on the board for San Jose.
Ottawa’s victory marked back-to-back wins following a five-game skid, while the Sharks continued to struggle, losing four of their last five contests.
San Jose’s leading scorer, Mikael Granlund (32), remained sidelined for a second straight game with an upper-body injury.
Next on their schedule, the Senators will travel to meet the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday while the Sharks will play against the Seattle Kraken on Friday to end the homestand.
