The Calgary Flames did it again. On Tuesday night, head coach Ryan Huska’s squad scored their fourth comeback win in a row and kept themselves in the heated race for a Western Conference wild-card spot.
Four Points Behind the Blues
It was all possible with Nazem Kadri’s dramatic overtime goal just 3:38 into overtime.
It was the second time the 34-year-old had found the back of the net that evening, and just what the team needed to secure a 4-3 win against the Seattle Kraken.
Adam Klapka and Rasmus Andersson also scored, while Matt Coronato had two assists, helping the Flames improve to 34-25-11 on the season.
Calgary maintained its position at four points behind the surging St. Louis Blues. However, the fact that they hold three games in hand gives them an excellent perk.
Meanwhile, the Kraken (30-36-6) saw goals from Ty Kartye, Jaden Schwartz, and Jordan Eberle but fell short in overtime. It was Seattle’s first defeat when leading after two periods.
Wolf Made 26 Saves
Dustin Wolf stood tall between the pipes. The 23-year-old, born in Gilroy, California, did a good job at stopping 26 of 29 shots, improving his record to 24-14-5.
On Seattle’s side, Joey Daccord made 33 saves but suffered the overtime loss, dropping to 23-19-5.
Kadri proved to be essential for the Flames’ comeback, igniting the rally with a power-play goal at 13:42 of the third period to tie the game at 2-2.
His goal came toward the end of a four-minute power play, drawn when Brandon Montour’s high stick caught Coronato.
After trailing 1-0 through the first period, Kraken turned the tide in the second.
Schwartz evened the score with a power-play goal at 10:25, followed by Kartye’s impressive breakaway finish at 18:42. His goal—just his fifth of the season—marked only his second in the last 30 games.
Backlund, Not Cleared to Play
Captain Mikael Backlund, who had been out because of an upper-body injury for the last five games, went back to practice on Monday.
However, the 36-year-old Swede did not receive the green light to play on Tuesday.
The Flames did, however, regain defenseman MacKenzie Weegar, their top-scoring blueliner with six goals and 41 assists, after he missed the previous contest with a lower-body injury.
Next in line for the NHL teams, Seattle will return home to face the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, while Calgary will stay in Alberta to host the Dallas Stars the same night.
