The National Basketball Association (NBA) is dealing with a mess caused Kyrie Irving by that is getting bigger by the day. Irving who plays for the Brooklyn Nets had earlier posted a link to a documentary on Twitter titled “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America” that had strong anti-Semitic language.

Irving immediately received criticism for endorsing anti-Semitic language and would later go on to take down the post. 

Adam Silver To Meet With Irving Soon

The Brooklyn Nets and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) quickly look to put out the fire caused by Irving and confirmed that they would be donating $500,000 each to anti-hate causes. The ADL also released a statement condemning anti-Semitic speech but did not name Kyrie Irving in its statement nor did Irving issue an apology for endorsing anti-Semitic language.

Adam Silver, Commissioner for the NBA had to release a statement on the issue and said that Irving made a reckless decision to post the link to a documentary that had anti-Semitic language. Silver said that he was disappointed that Irving had refused to issue an apology for his behaviour and did not come out and denounce all forms of anti-Semitism. 

The Commissioner said that he has plans to meet with Irving next week and discuss his concerns.

When Irving was pressure for an apology, he claimed that he did not make the documentary and shifted the focus to the history of black Americans and pointed out that over 300 million of his people were buried in America.

Synagogues In New Jersey Under Risk Of Attack

Kyrie Irving has a massive fan following on social media with more than 17 million followers on Instagram alone. His views and comments carry a lot of weight which is one of the reasons why the NBA is so keen on getting him to apologize and denounce all forms of anti-Semitism.

While Irving continues to side step the issue, things are getting out of hand in his home state of New Jersey. The FBI has now warned that they have info of a credible threat to multiple synagogues in the state! If something does happen in a Jewish synagogue in New Jersey and its linked to the remarks made by Irving, it might be a little too late for an apology! Will the Nets play Irving for the next game?
