Brayden Schenn Leads Blues Past Canadiens in 4–3 Win

Dylan Holloway and Brayden Schenn celebrate scoring goals against the Montreal Canadiens during 2025 NHL Season

Summary:

  • Brayden Schenn scored two times and added an assist as the St. Louis Blues held off the Montreal Canadiens.
  • The Blues flipped the game with two quick goals
  • Cole Caufield carried his point streak to 11 games, matching his career best.

Brayden Schenn had the kind of night every forward hopes for, scoring twice and setting up another as the St. Louis Blues edged the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 on Sunday.

Dylan Holloway also put together a strong game with a goal and two assists, while Pavel Buchnevich added one of his own.

The result capped off a solid weekend for St. Louis, which had just beaten Ottawa 2-1 the night before. Jordan Binnington made 23 saves and kept things steady when the Canadiens pushed late.

Montreal, coming off a shootout win in Toronto on Saturday, didn’t look flat despite the quick turnaround. Cole Caufield kept his hot streak alive with a goal, stretching his point run to 11 games, which ties his career high.

Noah Dobson scored and added an assist, and Lane Hutson chipped in with a slick finish. Their two-game win streak ended, but they carried much of the play throughout the night.

The Canadiens had to make an unexpected switch in goal just hours before puck drop. Sam Montembeault was supposed to start but was ruled out because he’s sick.

That meant Jakub Dobes was back in net for the second time in 24 hours, and Kaapo Kahkonen had to be recalled from Laval to back him up. Dobes finished with 14 saves.

How the Action Unfolded

St. Louis opened the scoring midway through the first period when Schenn pounced on a loose puck after a point shot was deflected.

Montreal answered a few minutes later with a highlight moment from Hutson, who cut to his backhand and slid the puck past Binnington. Caufield added another late in the period, giving Montreal a 2-1 lead.

The game flipped quickly at the start of the second. Holloway finished a rush that sliced right through the Canadiens’ coverage, and less than a minute later, Robert Thomas set up Buchnevich in front to make it 3-2 Blues.

Schenn added his second goal on a 2-on-1 created by Holloway, stretching the lead to 4-2 with just under 10 minutes left in regulation.

Dobson gave Montreal some life with a goal in the final minutes with the extra attacker, but the Blues held on.

Montreal controlled long stretches, kept St. Louis from generating much at five-on-five, and allowed only eight shots in the third period. However, going 0-for-2 on the power play and losing track of Holloway and Buchnevich in key moments proved costly.

Up next, St. Louis will return home to face the Bruins on Tuesday in NHL.
