Paddy Powers Predicts Hillary Clinton Winning Presidential Election

US Election 2016Betting company Paddy Power made waves after it decided to make payouts to those betting on Hillary Clinton winning the U.S. Presidential election which is slated to be held on Nov. 8. Paddy Power announced earlier this week that it has so far paid out $1 million to bettors wagering on Clinton. Although early voting has commenced in United States, the final results would be available only in the second week of November, but this hasn’t stopped the betting company from audaciously making the prediction regarding its results.

In a statement, a representative of Paddy Power said

Trump gave it a hell of a shot going from a rank outsider to the Republican candidate but the recent flood of revelations have halted his momentum and his chances now look as patchy as his tan. Recent betting trends have shown one way traffic for Hillary and punters seemed to have called it 100-percent correct

This is not the first time that Paddy Power has called an election ahead of time. In 2014, the company had paid out $650,000 almost 48 hours before President Obama clinched his second term. Currently the betting site has odds of 9/2 on Trump winning the election and 2/11 for a Clinton victory. The site has stated that it has received a large amount of bets on Clinton winning the election. Several major polls being conducted in the U.S. are predicting a win for Clinton.

British bookmaker William Hill is another betting company that has acknowledged that most of the bets received by it are in favor of Clinton winning the elections. The bookmaker stated that it has received bets amounting to £183,200 and €550,000 across different geographies on the election, with a number of female players betting on a win for Clinton.

The Trump campaign was on a strong footing before a string of revelations regarding his attitude towards women impacted it. Leading U.S. statistical analysis website Fivethirtyeight.com headed by Nate Silver has predicted that Clinton has an 88 percent chance of victory. In September, the website had put the chances of a Clinton victory at 55 and of Trump’s at 45. But the recent spate of allegations against Trump has significantly affected the chances of a Trump win.

Online betting websites across the world are expecting up to £20 million to be wagered on the eagerly–awaited result of 2016 U.S. election.
