We are the Montr\u00e9al Roses<\/em>&#8220;, Montreal&#8217;s new women&#8217;s professional soccer franchise was proudly announced in a message on X on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The message that finally revealed the name of the club that will represent Montreal in the <strong>Northern Super League<\/strong>, the top flight of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.betting.ca\/soccer\">Canadian soccer<\/a> league system, was accompanied by a minute-long presentation video of the new logo and colour scheme.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"fr\" dir=\"ltr\">Nous sommes les Roses de Montr\u00e9al. <br><br>We are the Montr\u00e9al Roses. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RosesFC?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#RosesFC<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mFQdScadSB\">pic.twitter.com\/mFQdScadSB<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Roses de Montr\u00e9al (@rosesmtlfc) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rosesmtlfc\/status\/1843786156216864963?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 8, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The franchise also revealed the new logo during an event near Montreal&#8217;s Old Port.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"we-started-working-on-this-back-in-november\">&#8220;We Started Working on This Back in November&#8221;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It took the team almost a year to decide upon the name, as explained by Team president <strong>Annie\u00a0Larouche<\/strong> who shared that the club began the brainstorming process \u201c<em>back in November<\/em>\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The president explained that the naming process involved working with two committees, one focused on branding and the second one serving as a diverse sounding board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Team founders <strong>Isabelle Chevalier<\/strong> and <strong>Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Crevier<\/strong> mentioned that they considered at least 40 names before selecting the final one. Larouche said<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>When the agencies came up with this name, it was just a perfect fit. It&#8217;s bilingual, it&#8217;s feminine, but it&#8217;s powerful. It&#8217;s roots and thorns. It was perfect with what we wanted to build.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the team&#8217;s crest that features a blue rose, with the words &#8220;ROSES&#8221; &#8220;MTL,&#8221; and &#8220;FC&#8221; in gold above it, it found inspiration in Montreal&#8217;s iconic &#8220;Farine Five Roses&#8221; sign, a well-known landmark on the Lachine Canal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"star-studded-presentation-event\">Star-Studded Presentation Event<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many iconic names in Quebec&#8217;s sports world attended the presentation event planned by the franchise. The list included hockey player Marie-Philip Poulin, Super Bowl winner Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, CF Montreal captain Samuel Piette, and Diana Matheson, one of the league&#8217;s co-founders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roses FC is the last of the Northern Super League&#8217;s founding teams to reveal its branding, joining the ranks of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.betting.ca\/news\/vancouver-reveals-name-and-logo-of-new-womens-soccer-team\">Vancouver Rise FC<\/a>, Ottawa Rapid FC, Halifax Tides FC, Calgary Wild FC and AFC Toronto<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the team has yet to announce its home venue for the inaugural 25-game season in April, Larouche indicated that an announcement will be made before the year ends.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team is considering several locations around Montreal, including the Verdun Auditorium (3,795 seats), Place Bell (10,000 seats), and Bell Centre (21,000 seats) for the first season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Montreal Roses are also busy building their roster, preferably with local talent from Quebec and across Canada, with player signings expected to be announced soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The club\u2019s new sporting director, <strong>Marinette Pichon<\/strong>, did not rule out the possibility of eventually recruiting top Canadian players like Evelyne Viens, who currently plays for AS Roma in Italy, Canadian center-back Vanessa Gilles, or Gabrielle Carle from the Washington Spirit in the NWSL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each team in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsl.ca\/\">NSL<\/a> is projected to have a $1.5-million salary cap for a roster of 20 to 25 players, with a minimum salary of $50,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teams can have up to seven foreign players and one marquee player whose salary will only account for $75,000 against the cap.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Summary: &#8220;Nous sommes les Roses de Montr\u00e9al.
