Wednesday\u2019s result comes to show <strong>McIntosh\u2019s training keeps paying off<\/strong>, as it would have brought her the gold medal at the world championship in Doha this past February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Summer McIntosh clocks\u00a0world&#039;s\u00a0fastest time of 2024 in women&#039;s 200m against stacked Canadian field\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vee8lS3ScOk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking about her result, McIntosh said <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>It&#8217;s always good when I can set good times and execute my race properly. Overall I was really happy with that. I felt quite strong<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The swimmer added she felt \u201c<em>in control throughout the race<\/em>&#8221; while her parents were cheering on her from the stands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"mac-neil-beat-mcintosh-in-100m-backstroke\">Mac Neil Beat McIntosh in 100m Backstroke&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>McIntosh quickly returned to the pool after scoring the 200m free win to compete in the <em>100-metre backstroke final<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There, she swam against backstroke experts <strong>Ingrid Wilm<\/strong> and <strong>Maggie Mac Neil<\/strong>. The latter who holds the 100-metre butterfly Olympic champion title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The adrenaline-pumping battle came down to the last few strokes which made a difference, with Mac Neil getting the wall just ahead of her competitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commenting on the win, Mac Neil, who stopped the clock at <em>59.63<\/em>, explained <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>It just shows the backstroke depth we have in Canada and it was something fun to get my meet started. I haven&#8217;t raced that much as I normally do so just seeing where I am heading into trials. It&#8217;s really just a dress rehearsal<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Mac Neil, who admitted she hasn\u2019t been racing as much as she usually does lately, will also participate in the upcoming 50-metre free and 100-metre butterfly and freestyle events at the Canadian Open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/typicalpen\/\">Penny Oleksiak<\/a><\/strong> also joined the event, making her first appearance in a swimming competition in Canada in almost two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The swimmer, who has been training in California since last fall, competed in the 200-metre freestyle and finished in a time of 1:59.75.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three months prior, the Toronto-based 23-year-old underwent knee surgery.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will Summer make a big splash at the 2024 Paris Olympics?
