The Elks operates on an ownership structure that is community owned but that could soon change due to the club suffering significant financial losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"edmonton-elks-continue-to-lose-money\"><strong>Edmonton Elks Continue To Lose Money&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For any professional club to be successful, they need to play well and make money on a consistent basis. The Edmonton Elks have <strong>suffered financial losses for four consecutive years and reported an operating loss in 2022 of $3.3 million<\/strong>. Those losses also correspond with the struggles that the Elks have faced in recent years as the one successful franchise hasn\u2019t made it to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.betting.ca\/american-football\/odds\">CFL playoffs<\/a> since 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Edmonton Elks exploring ownership options\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/w63ZDyCQjOk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Those struggles have put a lot pressure on the Elks and CEO <strong>Rick LeLacheur<\/strong> to do something to turn things around.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, LeLacheur said <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The impacts of the COVID pandemic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.betting.ca\/american-football\">football<\/a> operations decisions, and subsequent struggles on the field have all contributed to a difficult financial situation. We are going to need a capital investment on the club going forward, because it&#8217;s going to take us a couple of years to get out of these losses we&#8217;ve been accumulating on an annual basis.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"edmonton-elks-could-look-at-private-ownership\"><strong>Edmonton Elks Could Look At Private Ownership<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Elks have announced that they have<strong> put together a committee that will examine its current ownership structure<\/strong> and see if that needs to be changed in light of the ongoing financial struggles. The review committee will consist of 5 members which includes previous board members <strong>Bruce Bentley, Diane Brickner<\/strong>, and current board members <strong>Darryl Boessenkool, Brent Hesje and Tom Richards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LeLacheur is a non-voting member on the committee who has confirmed that private owners have expressed interest in taking over ownership of the Edmonton Elks but he did not divulge any names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LeLacheur said <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>I&#8217;ve told them they just have to wait. We&#8217;ve had no negotiations or anything like that.
