Formula 1<\/a> announced on Wednesday that it is choosing to bring an end to the practice of grid girls<\/a> standing by driver\u2019s cars and joining them on the podium during the awards ceremony. This takes effect with the first race of 2018 in Australia.<\/p>\n The managing director of F1 commercial operations, Sean Bratches<\/strong> said,<\/p>\n We feel this custom does not resonate with our brand values and clearly is at odds with modern-day societal norms. We don’t believe the practice is appropriate or relevant to Formula One and its fans, old and new, across the world.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Prior to Wednesday\u2019s announcement, drivers would be joined by women just before the start of the rare and positioned in front of the cars with placards announcing the driver’s number.
